Saturday was a great day! My 2 1/2 year old nephew came out to see the horses and get to play in the country for the afternoon. All he could do was worry about the horses and where they were. I was a little nervous to see their reaction to a little guy. I mean really if I would have let him he would have walked right under them!
He feed Milly (the pony) carrots from lunch and then we had to go see the other 3 out in the pasture. We walked up to them and I almost started tearing up. Both Storm and JW put their heads down and he pet their noses and they just stood there. I mean as still as a rock! After walking out twice (he had to help me clean out the trailer in between visits). He decided he wanted to ride! I asked him "Well which one do you want to ride?" His answer was of course "All of them!!" Like duh! Are you kidding me :)
I told him that we will see who will follow us up to the paddocks and go from there, he said "Yep and then well get the next one" - I love this kid!!
Guess who followed us up into the paddock and let me halter him no problem!! Mr. JW!! I was a little nervous because sometimes he's just a little crazy :) but usually really good when you just lead him. We put on the kids saddle with the buddy stirrups and up went my little cowboy, holding on tight to the horn and talking the WHOLE time about how much fun he was having (he has a really large vocabulary for a 2 1/2 year old), his little studder came back because he was so excited!
Well I have to tell you that my JW turned into a 1 million dollar horse Saturday afternoon. He walked steady and VERY slow. He didn't spook, he stepped extremely careful the whole 3 loops of the arena. He followed me directly at my shoulder and at my speed. It was AMAZING!!! He then stood at the trailer and let the pets happen on his shoulder and his belly (that's all the higher my nephew can reach :).
He even lead for that little cowboy back to the paddock (I was supervising, but very minimal!). He made a little boy very happy and his owner very proud to have a horse Saturday afternoon!!!
