Another Horse

Thanks for reading my blog, even thogh tI may be bloogging WAY too much.SmileIf I ever write something totally stupid that any good horseman(or woman) ashould know, just tell me because I'm so new to this. My riding instrutor,Lindsey, has found another horse for me to try.I don't want to!!!! My heart's stuck on Angel(the posibbly unbroke bay two-year old QH filly.) If she's unbroke, it'll be $300 plus feed and board.Ugh, Why does finding the right horse have to be so hard???Super Angry I found several good ones on the web today but they were all too far away. Anyway, the horse Lindsey found is a registered spirited 14.3 hhpaint bay mare that was used as a therapy horse before she was retired or something( I don't know why she's not anymore.) My favorite part is the price. Are you ready? $200Big SmileSurpriseBig Smile!!!!!!!! Can you get a good horse that cheap? Isn't that too old to breed? I only want one foal but still... Lindsey said that since she's spirited, that it would be okay but I'm not so sure.;I don' t even know her name. There's several questions Iwant answered. Does she have good conformation? Has she ever had a foal before?? If yes, was she a good mother? Is she shoed?( I've heard it's better if horses aren't shoed) I just don't know. I read a thread on this website taht said a horse could be $200 amonth. I knew it wasn't going to be cheap but had no idea wha it WAS going to be.Well I need some help if I'm going to see this through.Alittle feedback, alittle 'YOur'e going to be fine' a little 'It's all worth it.' Because I'm starting to wonder...

                                    Is it really worth it???

Two thoughts: One, a former therapy horse should not be "spirited" in the most common understanding of what that means.  $200 would be a tip off to me that she is either unsound or has behavior issues that a beginner should not get involved with. 2nd: It would take a lot of experience to breed, raise and train a baby, and using an older unknown quality mare just because you want a baby is by most horsemanship standards, irresponsible.  You should get some time in the saddle before making these decisions and an unbroke 2 year old will not be the experience you really need.  I would encourage you to post this blog on the main board of horse topics to get some other responses.  Your enthusiasm is wonderful, but please get it channeled in a direction that is not going to get you hurt or soured.  A good horse does not need to be expensive, but it should fit the experience level of the rider.
