At the moment, I just have the mule. I had an Appy mare that passed away last November. One of these days, I hope to have my own place, where I can keep Ruby and a buddy - either horse or mule.

Thanks to Shannon7, too! It's true - the fact that mules will not do things that they feel are harmful, and the fact that they take time to digest what we show them, often results in the "stubborn" label.

I'm glad to hear of your white molly mule : )

Do you just own a mule, or do you own horses too?

To the last commenter, I have some people who do that, and then there are some of my friends who talk about horses more than I do around them, but still I get the rep of alwasy talking about horses just because I have them...I guess some people just cannot get over it. It was not until I went to college that I met people who did not own horses who could just say, horses are cool and not mind it when I send out e-mails to everyone of the babies in the spring :).

However, I did have to smile when I read your post. There are always individuals who *must* say something, or their head will implode. My favorites have always been the non-horsey set, who upon hearing that I own or ride horses must launch into the well known speech that makes your teeth grind (you know, the one that always has some version that goes; horses? Well, my cousin's uncle's boyfriend had a horse and he let me ride it once when I was 10...it bit me before running off into rush hour traffic and bucking me off over a cliff...blah, blah, blah.)

I grew up on a ranch, and we had both mules and horses. They were all individuals, but they had their own niche. The mules were more of a safety net. Think of the term 'stubborn as a mule.' A mule generally recognizes unsafe footing and isn't going to be pressured into following their rider instead of trusting their own instincts. Because of their rockfooted-ness, there were places that the mules went that I would never dream of having a horse pack me in.

Your profile makes me smile. As a young girl, I also had a white molly mule. Her name was 'Snowball' and she was very dear to me.

Don't worry about the nay-sayers. There are good and bad with any type of creature. That's the beauty of diversity.
