So, today was the first official day the horses decided to start shedding their winter coat. Its Dayleys (16.3HH Bay Appendix Gelding) first winter here and he is still on his old season clock. He probably shed about enough to fill up a foal sized winter blanket. Commander (15.2HH White/grey Arabian Gelding) on the other hand has more sense around this climate then Dayley. He only gave away a couple loose handfuls of fur. When I say he has more sense, I mean; Commander has been here for four years now and has lived to see snow in late April and early May. Lets just say now; Dayley might be wearing a heavy winter blanket for a little longer =\
Personally I like this time of year... even though the constant fur shedding makes the yard (in Commanders case) look like it freshly snowed. Even though It looks like we have a bunch of sheep laying all over our ground there are perks to this time of year I do look forward too. Watching the hair being carried away by the birds (swallows mostly) to their nests. Watching the horses regain their spirit as they realize that spring is coming and soon summer and no blankies. Watching the snow disappear for longer periods of time...
Yeah, there are things I like about this time of year...
