Well, April has been kind of hard on us.
I was starting a lesson with my one, and only, student one day. She groomed D out, tacked her up, and led her out of the barn - only for D to begin dragging her back right leg. She continued behaving strangely with that particular leg and so I cancelled the lesson and took her to the round pen. Walked her out, turned circles with her, tried to back her up, and came to the conclusion that something was seriously wrong.
There were no apparent injuries to her - no swelling, bleeding, etc. I was terrified.
We called our vet, Dr. Martin. I talked to him and he explained to me that she has some sort of issue with her muscles/tendons in her leg. Her back legs lock up because the muscle isn't pulling her kneecaps (or something like that) into place. He suggested working her muscles to make them stronger. If that doesn't work over about 6 weeks, we may have to move on to a minor surgery. Great...
Because of this 'wonderful' news, we decided to cancel our ride to Bristol for the ACTHA ride. It was supposed to be on Saturday - and I can't tell you how truly heartbroken I am about it.
It's been a hard month. I'm working more than ever now, which means I'm spending even less time with my girl when she needs me to be building her muscle.
I don't know what else to say. It's just been hard.
On a happier note, does anyone really like any particular brand of hoof/trail boots? I'd appreciate it!
