    Calves and Horses?

    Hey everyone.
We're bringing my horse up to my house sometime soon. I'm already worried about her being nervous about being by herself and her eating too much grass. We're bringing up goats eventually but Grace is coming up alone to begin with. My dad is really allergic to horses so getting another horse if Grace is crazy isn't an option. My dad wants to get some calves anyway, but I was wondering if it would be okay to put a calf in with my horse. My friend has her horses with her cows and there has never had any problems but I was just wondering if there were any diseases I need to be aware of that spread from horses to bovine creatures or anything like that. I'm really good about keeping my horse well vaccinated and dewormed so I'm sure my calf will be the same way.
    Any advice?
    Thanks so much!
    Megan

not to say that there isn't more but the only thing I can think of that will spread for cow to horse is pink eye. but a fly mask on your horse will reduce the risk of this. but beaware that some horses don't like cows.

My horses go with my cows and calves all the time. Mostly, then ignore each other, but every once in awhile, one of the horses decides its time to chase one, but they really don't bother each other.

Bella used to be in with a cow and they really never bothered one another. The herd would stay on one side of the paddock and the cow on the other. Like someone said before this might not be the case with some horses.

I know how you feel, my mom is really illergic to horses.
