    Cleveland Bay?

Has anyone here had any experience with Cleveland Bays as a cart horse?

My mom might (big might Stick out tounge) be coming into a sleigh and would like to have a horse to pull it and possibly a Dr.'s buggy.

Her overall plan is to do a sort of Hobby farm and give rides in buggies/carts/sleighs etc.

She also likes Norwegian Fjords. I'm the one that likes the Cleveland Bays. Grin

Never met one personally, but from all I"ve heard, they make EXCELLENT driving horses. Also, VERY EXPENSIVE!

I LOOOOOOVE Fjords, would love to have one someday... not sure if that will ever happen due to already having more than enough horses hehe but we'll see in the future...

Had a client with one, really nice horse. Lots of size to him. Unluckily he had a heart problem as a 3 year old and was not the riding horse she wanted.

You can't go wrong either way. They are both incredible horses!

I have a soft spot for Cleveland Bays. They make excellent carriage horses. I think that Prince Philip's driving team is Cleveland Bays or CB crosses.

Well, I guess I just have EXPENSIVE tastes! Wink Most the breeds I like tend to be that way.

I didn't think it was possible to have too many horses. Grin As long as you can take care of them all and give them all attention. Nope no such thing as too many horses!

Was the heart problem a genetic thing, or just one of those things that happens?

Thanks! I've heard they do jumping too. Do you know if they do that well or do they do eventing that much?

I heard that the Queen of England's cart horses were Cleveland Bays.

I don't know much about Cleveland Bays, except I hear their upkeep (maitenance) is expensive, as well as buying one of them XD.

    Thanks Sophie for the Sig!

Well, my mom was also looking at a draft horse. As if that isn't expensive upkeep! Wink

They are also a rare/endangered breed. So that is probably why they are pricey. Gene pool could be small due to that as well, so keep an eye on healthy bloodlines.
