    Joint supplement

Hi ,I  have  a  horse  with  an  injury( knee) from last  year. He's  not  lame but  he does  have  arthritis now.

The injury  does  swell  some  times  when its  hot and  he  has a  bad attitude  some days.

I was  just  wondering  what joint supplements  people  have  had  the  most  luck  with.

He also  gets a  shot  of adaquan every  month.

    Thank  you

I used FluidFlex for my 30yr+ POA gelding before he was retired. He would get very sore in the winter and it was the onlything that wroked that he wouldn't pick out of his feed. It relieved arthritic pain, reduced swelling, and supported the joint. Great price too!!

    Re: Joint supplement

I have a 21 y/o Appaloosa who has had chronic arthritis for the past 5 or 6 years and we have found that Majesty Flex Wafers work wonders for him. For a while, he could barely walk and we tried the wafers as a last resort and within two months, he was running around and acting like a 10 year old. We just started another horse (a 7 y/o American WB), who fractured a bone in his leg last year, on them and he is doing super as well. I would definitely look into them though...they are reasonably price and they work incredibly! Good luck!

I use Equinyl CM on my 13 year old App Gelding (my farrier says he thinks he has arthritis in his knees)
and my other 3 horses are on MSM as a sort of preventative (my 22 yr old App Mare needs it for her heaves anyways).

My old jumper had excellent results from CortaFLX, but the response to any certain formula seems to be a very individual thing.  You may have to do some experimenting.  Good luck!

    Re: Joint supplement

Everyone has their favorite, and it's true that horses react differently to the various products.  The best luck I have had was actually an all-round supplement called ReitSportC; it has high levels of Glucosomine, Chondroitin, and MSM, plus the Biotin complex, probiotics and other "stuff".  I've had four horses on it at various times, from a young OTTB gelding with arthritis from a shoulder injury to an aged broodmare with arthritis in her knees and back so bad she could hardly move when I first got her.  The improvemnet in all cases was astounding.  The gelding was able to go back into work and the mare decided she was bossmare and started kickin' butt and takin' names.  They all were able to put on weight easily and maintain it, their feet grew in wonderfully strong, and they literally shone with health.  It is pricey at $67 a month through SmartPak (don't know what bulk price is) but it takes real good care of everything.  Add a daily wormer and you're done.  When $$$ was short I used SmartFlex Senior, again with good success, but it is not as complete nor does it have the joint supp quantity of ReitSport.  It runs around $30/mo.  You have to give whatever you use a good month to see the result, so it can be a long process of finding the right product.  You should notice some difference within two weeks with full effect by the month mark.

    Re: Joint supplement

I've been very happy with Acti-Flex 4000 and MSM.  My mare is moving beautifully!  I also have a couple of horses on just MSM.  For pain relief, I keep some B-L Solution/Pellets on hand.  It's the herbal equivalant to bute.

Like another poster said, it might take some experimenting to find what works for your particular horse.
