I have a 1/2 Arab but for 10yrs rode a spotted saddle horse. Smooth I loved him I bought him from a hack farm at 9yrs old he had one speed fast and no brakes. I also have a paint gelding and a Q H. I ride my paint a lot because he is smooth at a walk and trot. I have had 2 back surgeries and 2 neck surgeries after being knocked over after a horse slipped and fell in a barn i was boarding at years ago. I can't ride in a saddle anymore so i need comfort from my horses. I haven't rode my Q H yet he is at training he was a halter horse when i bought him.

I have a peruvian and he is everything the breed is known for except arrogant!  He has the famous brio--energetic but willing to please.  Also learns quickly, is playful and sweet.  He has a smooth gait and trot, a great canter and is a cute jumper--they really can do it all.

Got him about 10 years ago, when he was 5--first saw him at a special peruvian horse show.  After the show I was looking around in the show barns and saw he was for sale.  The  owners asked if I would like to ride him and of course I said yes!  I fell in love that day and have no regrets--we fit together perfectly.  :):):)

I've posted some pix of him in my gallery and I'm going to try and post one here--

I have Missouri Fox Trotters.  I just recently started my 3 year old and he's wonderful in the saddle, he's green and I'm green also.  So we're taking it slow and we're learning together.

A book that might help you in the Gaited Breeds - gaits etc...is Easy Gaited Horses by Lee Zigler...just a thought

    Thank you,

Hey Steve - glad you're part of this forum.  My 3 yr old MFT was about the same way.... took the bit, the saddle etc...all in stride took to his first rider (it wasn't me) like he'd been doing it all his life - I am now riding him by myself and he has never offered to buck.

He's the sweetest boy that I've ever come across..

    Thank you,
    Brandi

Dear Dancing, My name is Rain, I am a SSHBEA/TWHBEA and I belong to Skydancer2009 I am  the senior male aat 12 in her herd of six horses we are all double registered TWH and SSH but one the new buckskin who is going to make everyone elses life miserable. We were anestablished herd of ages 12 to 25 before the kid showed up. Skydancer does everything and anything with all of us. we trail ride, do small shows, versitility events and I am even learining to tolorate a gun being fired off my back, she thinks she it Annie Oakly, and that I like playing cowboys and indians. Sorry about that Dancing I turn my back on Rain andhe and the others take over my computer lol!.  I have trailridden all over IL, Tn and MO with these guys all move a little differently and some of the girls are more spirited than some of the others but I would not trade any of them and three of them are grandmother, mother and son. Spotted horses are a blast and can do anything a non-gaited horse can do but without jaring your back. They do have a tendency to move alittle faster than non-gaited breeds but they just have a bigger walk. hope to see you all on the trail

Hi All, I just stumbled across this forum and it looks great!

we have gaited horses also we Raise Paso Finos, the ones made to do it all, you won't find the going nowhere type here

This is a pix of one of my show mares in largo speed, we have Largo raced her ( she is very fast most other breeds have to canter to keep up w/ her largo), barreled raced her, have also done rach sorting she loves to chase cows(LOL), and distance riding on her.

we also have Pinto Paso Finos some with very soft gaits that you need to look down to be sure yes you are moving.

I love this breed, i feel i can do anything with them

I have a triple registered, certified KMHA gelding. Hes 10 & we are learning a lot together! Hes registered racking horse, walking horse, & spotted saddle horse.. although hes solid black & the only 2 white spots he has are from scars.. he was already registered SSHA when I bought him & I wouldnt dare taking him in a sotted saddle horse class! Haha

He can be lazy & trot but its not like any other gaited horse breaking, its not that bouncy but still a big no no! He has a smooth canter but we are working on canter on cue instead of him just getting a little to excited & doing it by himself.. I show him but we mainly trail ride together. The judges love him & hes very sure footed. Hes a great boy!

     Hi, everyone,

    I ride a gaited mule.

CSH Andromeda (Ruby) is out of a TWH mare. She just turned 3, and we are working on the gaits & muscling up to maintain the gaits. She does trot, and can canter, though she is underconfident with it. We're working on that - time is an important training aid with her - no hurries. I'm excited to have an equine with special gaits! Now that I have a saddle that fits extremely well (from Crest Ridge Saddlery), her shoulders move much more freely, and she doesn't mind picking up some speed! She loves to get out and do something : ) We have a great time, and are always learning together (mules make excellent teachers, even if you thought you already knew a thing or two).

    Dancing:
I was curious about the breeds that forum members ride.

I ride a big boned Tennessee Walking Horse, He is a copper bay and we do endurance trail, and just plain ol camping with friends and family. I also have a SSH,  RMH X, and a KMH X and another TWH. The TWH's is what I prefer to ride.
