Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
I was just going to post that after a week of being able to get on at 6am est, the same old problems are cropping up again...and that is the error message I get. I *suspect* they are working on the server, etc., during the daytime instead of when we are not trying to access the site...like O-Dark:30 in the am :)

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
I tried to insert a photo in one of my posts earlier, and got a "page cannot be found" error in the little box that pops up where you usually put the URL. Wha?? Tried several times, even came back a couple of hours later and tried again, still the same error.

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
I can't get the email to work right now for whatever reason. I haven't been able to get into the forums at all for 2 weeks and I'm borrowing a computer to get in now, so I figured posting this would be my best bet at the moment.

City, State (and Country if not U.S.A.): Georgia
-
Internet type (modem, cable modem, DSL): DSL (with wireless, linksys router)
-
Internet service provider: Bellsouth
-
Computer brand and model: 13" MacBook
-
The speed of your computer's CPU (600MHz, 2GHz, etc.): 2GHz
-
-
Age of the computer: 1yr
-
Operating system and version (i.e. Windows XP with Service Pack 2): OS X Leopard
-
Web browser name and version (i.e. Firefox 2.0, Internet Explorer 7.0): Safari & FireFox
NOTE: The forums have been workable on this exact computer (no changes) since the change. There have been "minor" disappointing issues that you are aware of, but I've always been able to get in and I didn't have the speed issues that others had a few months ago. Because of this I feel it is likely an issue between the website and the service provider or wireless router. However, I'm using the same provider (bellsouth) with a different brand wireless router and a machine running windows vista right now and I can get in, but it's a different connection (different location).

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
The forum is doing a lot of balking at loading pages again. (Using both FireFox and AOL default browser) Getting the "Oooops! Something went wrong!" error message. I can sometimes link directly to a thread from my browser history or a bookmark but get the error message when I try to navigate elsewhere. The server still manages to recognize me though, since I can usually get into chat even though I can't get a forums page to load. Others seem to be experiencing lost text or complete loss of a "reply" when they hit "post" that has been going on for several weeks. ES has also been very slow again for several weeks but I haven't bothered to report it due to possible weather related Internet hub problems from all the storms. I doubt that is any longer a factor. Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
<>I've been getting the same error message. Stimpy tried logging
in as me a few days ago and was unable to duplicate the
problem. It was especially difficult while I was doing the Secret
Santa stuff and NEEDED to get into my private messages. The
past couple of days I've been unable to access the forum at all
using Safari/Mac, but I don't seem to be having a problem in Netscape
(took me till today to figure that out though, duh!) I
emailed Stimpy (Jon) and haven't heard back, so it's possible they have
him time off for the holiday or he's been swamped with another
project. Since we're still having issues, I'll move it up the
food chain.

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
As I recall, when I was unable to reproduce the problem, it had gone away for you, too. It returned days later but I was already gone for the holidays.
I am indeed still out of town on vacation. I have access to e-mail but not my tools right now (not without being encumbered with rediculously sluggish performance as it would involve remoting into my work terminal) and I don't even know what is causing the problems you are having. There are other engineers but they are likely celebrating New Year's right now. Your e-mails were indeed received (the e-mail template at the top of this thread sent to engineering@equine.com for critical errors will always reach the entire engineering team) but the steam won't fire back up until January 2nd when we are all back together in the office. We have a new engineer joining us, adding to our numbers, but unfortunately there will be some training to be done before that will equate to improved ability to address these issues.
At any rate, I will try to address your problem this week, but unless another engineer intervenes it will not be before Wednesday.

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
Thanks for the response Jon.
Earlier today I couldn't access the forum at all with Safari, but I could with Netscape.
When I got the email that you had responded and clicked on it, it fired up my default browser (Safari) and "lo and behold" no problems tonight with Safari.
Have a safe and Happy New Year Jon - and thanks for all your help :)

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
We're back in the office. Are you still getting "Oops!" messages? If so, please reply with the time of day (with time zone) and URL/web address that you're getting the error plus any other info you can send. What version of Safari are you using? Please note, folks, that the "Date and time of incident" is really critical information along with everything else. "Present" or "now" or "today" isn't helpful; we need to know "Wednesday, December 12 at 8:15am MST" or similar data. Time of day and weekday / date of month allows us to double-check our automated tasks to make sure the database isn't overloaded or something.
Thanks,
Jon

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
For me, it's accessing the forums between say, 6am and 7:15am daily, EST. Either it is so very slow loading I walk away and do something else, or I get the Oops message. It's not my PC or cable connection as I can access other sites same time and no problems. It almost seems if some process is being run at that time.

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
The forums have been extremely slow again but to give you an example with details ... Thursday Jan 03 @ 1:20PM it took almost 15 minutes to access the sign-in page (using Firefox with satelllite speed of approx 400kbps). Happy New Year to all you techie types - hope you can keep us Happy with a smoothly running ES

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
I get the "oops" message everyday between 5 and 7 am Eastern. That is on IE with Satellite internet. But I get it off and on all day long on that same internet and on IE with DSL.
If at first you don't succeed, do it the way your wife told you to. (author unknown)

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
OK. We'll be taking the site down at 11:00 AM MST today for maintenance. It will be down for up to an hour, ideally only about ten minutes. We hope that this change will alleviate the morning grogginess of the web site.

I'm leaving for Ottawa again tomorrow, and I just hope I won't be having this kind of trouble when I get there. I'm not having any issues on any other website exept this one right now. (Sorry to all for not being around.) I've been kinda having the same trouble as QHAllAround apparently!

Re: How to report performance issues and critical errors
Is the Forum button on the home page broken??
I get in here by going to the home page and using the button, but yesterday and today it's giving me the "oops, something went wrong..." message. I can get around it by using my history files to jump straight into a thread, and once I'm here things are fine, or at least I haven't noticed any big issues.
ETA: every time I make a post I get the "oops...." message again. If I hit my back button from there and then go someplace else I find that it did post (well, every time so far) but it's scary for a minute when it does that.
