Letters to Santa - from your horse!
I am not ashamed to say that I've stole this idea from a different forum, but I thought it was pretty cute to read how everyone portrayed their horse's Christmas wishes. So, here are mine:
Dear Santa,
I hope this isn’t too much to ask, but I was wondering if you knew how to get a hold of the person who owns a place called ‘The Rainbow Bridge’? I was told that’s where Su is now, and I just want to tell her a couple of things because I didn’t get the chance to before. First, I would like to tell her that I’m sorry for being so mean to her most of the time, I didn’t really mean it… it’s just… girls have cooties. And I’d like her to know that I miss her. I have no one to talk too when Rhythm is being bossy to me now. I hope I’ll get to see her again one day, because she was pretty nice to me.
Oh, and Santa? Could I maybe get a new halter for Christmas? I know my mom bought me one last year… But it doesn’t fit very well. It doesn’t flatter my very nice head. Oh, and maybe I could get some different goodies, because the stuff I have to eat now isn’t very tasty. I don’t think I really need anything else right now…
Thanks a lot,
Nova
Dear Santa,
All I want for Christmas is for people to stop calling me ‘old’, and throwing the word ‘retired’ around. Don’t they know I’m just fine? So what if my knees don’t bend like they should… I can still go. And I’d much rather work than stay at home with the ‘kid’… Someone should tell him I’m not his mommy...
Kaila
Dear Santa,
I don’t really need much this year. I’d really just like my people to use the round bale feeder they bought, so I can eat all I want. I know I have a bit of a weight issue, but food tastes so good! I also suppose I should ask for this, since I’ve heard a rumour that Christine might be riding me next year… Can I have an English saddle that fits? The current one is a bit narrow on me, and it makes it hard to do everything she asks.
Thanks,
Skye
Dear Santa,
So, like, for Christmas this year… Well, I NEED a whole bunch of stuff! I mean, I’m not sure how these people expect me to survive without some basic necessities. First, can you bring Dawn back, because we had a lot of fun together. This Nova kid is useless… He doesn’t play very well (just between you and me, he’s kind of sissy). Next, can you get the old lady some riding lessons… How am I supposed to look my best when she’s just up there like a sack of potatoes!? I also wouldn’t mind a new saddle pad… I know she bought a new one this summer, but seriously, teal is NOT my colour! Purple is.
Now that we have the big stuff out of the way, I wouldn’t mind more oats, something to keep my coat glossy and sleek for next summer, more treats, and oh, you know, the usual.
Thanks bunches,
Rhythm

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
ROFL, sooooooo cute!! Dear Santa, Hey man, I'm pretty good this year. Seriously though, can you send a bunch of wormer that DOESN'T taste like crap??? I'm so tired of putting up with that nasty stuff. Oh, and if there is a way to possibly deposit a Mt Everest of my favourite hay flavour (you know which one) into my stall, that would be totally cool. And I wish mom would buy carrots for me, even though they do get all slimy and she can't keep them at the barn, because I looooooooooooooooooove them!!! Ohhh, and one more thing, I want a big ol' pasture JUST for my and my gelding lifepartner Zeke so we can just graze together and snuggle -- I don't mind those other guys, but they just are so silly sometimes. Oh yeah, and do you think you can bring back that hot little Appy mare, Chick -- cause she was a little piece of scrumptious on four hooves and when she moved away, well, none of the other girls really do it for me.... Peace out, reindeer man (by the way, those deer of yours deserve way more credit that they get!), Solaris

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
Ooooh ! love this idea Horses are stall-bound today because of a humungous blizzard, so I gave them each paper & pencil (to relieve some of the boredom) and now I'm back with their letters Dear Santa, You know Santa that I'm a real easy-going kinda guy - nothing really fazes me much - but please can you make sure that my rider continues with her lessons. It's hard work for me BUT I love working properly & with a purpose And I'd love to have one of those 'bling' browbands - I saw a cute chic at last fall's show wearing one & all the guys were looking at her. If I had one maybe all the cute gals would look at me And, since I'm such a nice, cute, well-behaved guy, a bushel of carrots parked in a corner of my stall would be awesome. Love ya Santa, from Bailey Hiya SantaBaby, It's me Sambuca - yeah, yeah, I know I haven't been so good all year, but what the hay! y'know that I try - well sort of Geesh, I must deserve some reward for something or other ?? OK got it ! I've lost some weight , so how about a bucket of treats -- just for me -- that I don't have to share Oooh, how about one of those rope halters like my daughter has - something with a bit of sparkle to match the glint in my eye Don't be late Santa, I'll be waiting, your sweet sweet Sambuca Whoopee Hi Santa, Talea here - it's snowing big time - wanna come & play with me - we can run & jump & kick & rear & do sliding stops .......... Ooops, bossy lady is here to take my pencil away OK - for Christmas I want a new winter blanket cuz I'm a BIG girl now & my baby blanket doesn't fit anymore. And some treats. And I want some more BIG beach balls to play soccer in the pasture (good ones so they don't bust like the last two just cuz I kicked them too hard). And my very own never-ending bag of carrots (you can hide them in my BIG stall so the others can't get at them). And I like peppermints. And my own trailer tie (a pretty one to match me for the trips that I'll take next year in our new trailer. And some treats. And did I mention I'd like some treats..... Come quick Santa, the snow is still falling, let's go out & play, Talea

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
What a really cute idea - Here goes "A Letter From Goober":
Dear Mr. Claus (I'm very formal) :
Please Please Please bring my mom a seat belt so she will stop falling off and embarrassing me in front of the other horses, it just really wrecks with my mental well being, I mean I'm only 9 you know - Lots and lots of lickits (my favorite flavor is peppermint, gives me nice breath), a horse can't survive on 1 a day - Some new brushes and detangling spray - A bit warmer would be really nice if you can't bring my mom a seat belt - I have been a really good boy this year, just ask anyone at the barn - Thank you very much
Sincerely,
Goober aka Sunny D Light

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
Oooh, fun idea :)
Oi Santa!
I want, no I DEMAND, that you bring me the following things
> A large bottle of Mace - to keep those horrid geldings away from me. Ugh, I hate boys
> Roller skates so when mum tries to catch me I can use minimum energy to stay just out of reach. ha ha, I can't wait to see her face on Christmas day.
> Some heavy duty industrial scissors to cut up my rugs. I hate being clipped and having to wear rugs all the time. I've tried flattening my ears and threatening to bite but the message just isn't going through so now it is time for more drastic measures.
> A big field that stays open all year round and is full of lush grass so I never have to be stabled again. I suppose that Bella and Cloud can share it with me as they are my best girlfriends. No-one else though.
> Someone to explain to my mum that horse's noses are NOT supposed to be on the vertical regardless of what those stupid boring dressage people say. When my nose is on the vertical, how can I see what is happening back in the field? Also I would like her to know that I think dressage is for wimps and can't we just go hunter trialing once a week and I'll just chill in the field "conserving energy" the rest of the time.
> Food. and lots of it. Preferably that delicious mix with the carrots in. Yep, I like that stuff, keep it coming. Just don't buy me that horrid 'own brand' crap... I have an extremely sophisticated palate and I don't eat food that cost under £7 a bag.
Oh and by the way if you land your horrid dirty reindeer in my field I will be most displeased. Keep them well away from me if you know what is good for you. There is a car park round the front for a reason OK???????
Pollyanna
No seriously, I love my pony but she is a complete ***!!

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
Deer Santa:
All I want for christmas is for Grampa K to like me :(. I know I oknow he has warmed up to me alot over the last few years, but I like him alot. I would also like a place cleared out in the barn for me at the farm, I just LOVE my weekly rides out there but I think I would feel alot better if I had a nice place to rest before we come home. I would also like a new hay bag for trips. I don't want to push it Santa, but could you also help my mom find Charming and the kid a trainer? otherwise she is going to be riding ME and she pulls so hard. Don't get me wrong , I LOVE the kid, on the ground ! Thanks for bringing me the company I asked for last year, I especially like Des and charming :)
Your Friend
Star
Santa:
I thought we had an understanding last year. Turns out not only did you NOT bring me a harem... you let them geld me! That is not what I signed up for! I hope you get it right this time. I want my tie down and breast collar to be borrowed indefinately, if you know what I mean;) I would like my own room in the house close to my lady love, if you know what I mean, and could you help the kid find a hobby she likes so she forgets about riding, it's a real downer on an otherwise perfect friendship.
Thanks Buddy!
Fat Pony aka Charming
PS any word yet on whether or not gelding can be reversed?!?!?
My dearest friend,
You may or may not know that I have been kidnapped. I find myself in a nice enough situation, I really like the people and other horses here although I can't help but wonder when rescue will come. Obviously they are not aware who they are dealing with. One individual even chased me in a circle with a stick! ( The nerve)
For christmas this year Santa I would like a manual on training humans and also a manicure and would you mind letting the girls back home know I am safe? Actually I think I am very close to taking over :)
Sincerely
Valley Ridge Destiny

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
Dear Santa:
I've been trying really, really hard to be good this year. I've only been in a few fights in the pasture, and I'm much nicer to the farrier, I only give her some dirty looks.
So maybe if you could bring me one really good friend for the pasture, that would be great.
Apples and carrots for my stocking. Maybe a new saddle-pad in blue with something that doesn't clash with my spots.
Oh yeah, please let me stay in my current living situation forever and you can ride me if you want, I promise no buck, bite or runaway!
Thanks,
Ben

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
Dear Santy,
First my list of references for my having been a good girl: My mommy, who says that I'm her sweet girl, then her dad, who gives me pecans and all kinds of good stuff for, obviously, having been good, and my old trainer (who never rode me but gave my mom lessons; too bad we had to leave him, he was really great!).
Now for the fun part! For Christmas, please, I would like:
1) Lots of good food, such as grain, treats, rice krispies, and I'll even take hay if that's all you've got.
2) Please help my mommy find a good saddle that fits me for a good price! She really wants to start loping me and start working on our Western Pleasure and Western Horsemanship, Trail, and work on our Reining some too (minus the sliding stops). I had fun doing those and as right now all we've been able to do is lunge, do slow rail work in the arena, and practice showmanship I'm getting kinda bored now. Besides, I got more treats when she was riding me in a saddle.
3) A new saddle pad would be cool too.
4) How about a helmet for my mommy so I won't have to worry about her coming off and cracking her skull some day.
5) Some grooming supplies like detangler, show sheen, and hoof conditioner stuffs.
6) Last request: That my mommy can come out to see me more and that she can earn enough money to be able to keep me.
7) Oops! Sorry, one more thing just popped up. Let my mommy be able to get ahold of her old shoer. He was a really good shoer, but the one she's had to use lately doesn't do a very good job. My poor tootsies 've been kinda sore.
Your very good mare (well, most of the time),
Sas

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
Jenny, loved your mare's letter so much I couldn't resist writing a reply from "Santa."
Dear Pollyanna,
Unfortunately the elves, reindeer, and Santa himself has gone on strike this year. This is Mrs. Clause's horse, Peppermint Stick, writing back to you. You can only take two choices that I have for you: 1) either you can get a dressage whip in your stocking for christmas, which happens yo be the only thing I'm willing to give away, or 2) you can take my advice that I have listed for you:
1) A large bottle of Mace - to keep those horrid geldings away from me. Just give them a swift kick in the rear.
2) Roller skates so when mum tries to catch me I can use minimum energy to stay just out of reach. ha ha, I can't wait to see her face on Christmas day. Unfortunately since roller skates don't work all that well on pasture land, maybe you should just let her catch you--save energy, and you may reap the benefits of a short workout and possibly some treats.
3) Some heavy duty industrial scissors to cut up my rugs. I hate being clipped and having to wear rugs all the time. I've tried flattening my ears and threatening to bite but the message just isn't going through so now it is time for more drastic measures. First I want you to know that you have my sympathies: I don't particularly care for buzz cuts too, but since you'll end up with a buzz cut and no rug to keep you warm, it might be best if you just deal with it. Maybe if you must dabble in revenge you could shear your mom's hair for her so she can see for herself what it's like.
4) A big field that stays open all year round and is full of lush grass so I never have to be stabled again. Unfortunately due to climate changes your grass will never be lush all the time, and due to the high price of land nowadays a big field would not be possible to get, and so it would be best if you maybe just didn't eat all your hay at once and instead spread it all around your stall so you could graze all day.
5) Someone to explain to my mum that horse's noses are NOT supposed to be on the vertical regardless of what those stupid boring dressage people say. When my nose is on the vertical, how can I see what is happening back in the field? Also I would like her to know that I think dressage is for wimps and can't we just go hunter trialing once a week and I'll just chill in the field "conserving energy" the rest of the time. All people are so dull when it comes to things like that. They don't won't you to concentrate on them. They would rather you not look where you're going but instead run straight into a pole without blinking when they tell you too. I suggest you practice reverse psychology; give to the bit when they ask you, and then when they release the pressure, relax and enjoy the freedom they've "allowed" you. Remember my advice from point #2, that when you do what they want, you might get more treats.
6) Food. and lots of it. Preferably that delicious mix with the carrots in. Yep, I like that stuff, keep it coming. Just don't buy me that horrid 'own brand' crap... I have an extremely sophisticated palate and I don't eat food that cost under £7 a bag. I suggest that to support your sophisticated tastes even during this rise of inflation, you get a job and earn your pay in that expensive feed. A night job might be suitable, seeing how your mom will probably not want to work you at that time. Here at the N. Pole, I sometimes substitute for one of the reindeer, usually Rudolph. He's such a wimp! He always has a cold, that's why his nose is so red. I'm usually his substitute also because of my bright chestnut coat.
I hope you decide to heed my advice. Here's to "A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!"
~Peppermint Stick
P.S. If you decide not to take my advice, there's still that dressage whip if you want it. I can get it to you overnight delivery no charge!
Thanks. I had fun writing that.
Mae

Re: Letters to Santa - from your horse!
In a very regal tone...
My Dear Santa:
I would like to thank you for the new human you gave to me last year. She is very gentle, generous, and loving; but couldn't you have found one that understood me better? It took almost the entire year to train her!
My human can't ride at all, so this year I would like for you to bring me a good trainer for her. I have spent the entire year taking care of the incompetent old soul. I get so frustrated with her at times, it is difficult for me to keep my temper under control. My patience is about at an end. I know the human means well, but really!
I must admit my human does treat me with the respect I am due and was willing to provide a generous and very complimentary black and turquoise extensive wardrobe to go with my lovely shiny black coat. And the human does groom me delightfully with some refreshing citrus oil cosmetics.
I guess I could do a lot worse. At least the human tries real hard. All in all, she is worth the effort in training her.
I also would like some extra black and turquoise nylon padded halters. I hate wearing worn colorless halters, they are so plebian.
And one last thing Santa. Could you get my human to finish embellishing my black parade saddle and bridle with those pretty silver and turquoise conchos? She has been putting it off and I am getting impatient!
So you see I have been an extremely good mare this year, deserving of your consideration.
Sincerely,
RJ Hallazeer [Lady Ashen]
