    Found one!

This is a yearling filly who will probably mature to about 14.2 (maybe) I will be using her for trail riding a little low level (very low level) dressage and maybe some low hunters.  Just an all around horse.

      This is her pedigree:  http://www.allbreedpedigree.com/br+qton+silver+pistol

and this is a link to her pics:  http://www.brandyroseranch.net/mindy-pic-page.html

       full sister for comparison:  http://www.brandyroseranch.net/mykla-pic-page.html

sister is going through a bit of a growth spurt so please forgivethe skinny-ness.

To give you some background, I had a 4yo QH that had to be put down last may due to navicular.  I have since gotten a free lease horse from my farrier that I knew had arthritis, but with hock injections was very sound until a few weeks ago.  My farrier won't listen to me, but he is showing signs of advanced EPM, no he isn't walking in circles, but he has problems keeping his hind end under him.  I took him to a vet to have a flex test done and he failed miserably, I am not riding him now (obviously) but I still lunge him occasionally to get an idea of how he is doing.  He has been put on the EPM medicine, which will go back with him when he is taken home.  Its a 3 month supply, so hopefully this will help.  I have this guy until I find something else, I have been looking since last May and just haven't found anything that-

    1. I could afford

    2.  Wasn't even halter broke

    3.  Owners had either scared the poor animal to the point of it being dangerous.

    4.  wasn't crazy

I know a few people who have horses from this farm and love them, very kind intelligent and hard working horses.  They love that they can go compete one day then the next go for a trail ride on the buckle.  I want something young (over 6 months) that I can start (with the help of a very experienced horsewoman) so I don't have to try and undo any poor previous training.

      Your opinions will really help.

    Hello!

Sorry to hear about all your previous horse problems.

Something does not look right about this fillies front legs.  She's a little over at the knee and her knees are a little close together ( don't remember what it's called oopsy)

    Good luck in your search!

    Go

I noticed that also, I am going tomorrow to have a look in person and see if maybe its just bad angles or if they really do look a bit off.  Thanks for taking a look! :)

    Re: Need an honest critique

The problem isn't with her front legs or knees that make them close together - it looks like she has a very narrow  chest!  There is hardly any space between her front legs at the body.  It's almost as if both legs come out of the same hole, not physically possible I know, just an expression.   She really looks quite cute otherwise, but  good, nicely set up conformation shot from the side would help.

Seeing her in person can make all the difference.  They never seem to look the same in photos and you sure can't tell personality from one!

I hope she works out for you because it sounds like you could use some good luck with horses!

Her sister doesn't seem to have that problem, not really sure and definately not the best photos.  I think I will bring a camera with me and take some pics myself and see what I think.

    Re: Need an honest critique

I went and had a look at her yesterday along with her dam, sire, and sister.  The sire was very nicely built, about 14.3 nice chest and really nice confo (very unusual to find something this nice around here), he was also an absolute doll to be around.  Her mom is 24, doesn't look her age, and I can tell this is where she got her narrow chest, but the mare was proportional, so it didn't look bad on her.  Her sister was 14.1-ish, nice legs, good feet (a HUGE bonus) and also was very sweet and quiet.  The little girl, whose name is Mindy (which will be changed since we have a mindy person at the barn, lol), was very quiet.  Her chest isn't narrow, but long (?) if that makes sense?  Her legs looked very good and her feet looked nice and hard.  She was TINY, but most paint and qh yearlings I have seen lately have been.  I think she may max out about 14.2, which is fine by me.  She needs a bath, a currying (really bad), some rain rot medicine and a little more weight, but other than that I think she will be a sweetheart!  Now I'm just figuring out if I should borrow a bumper pull, or if she would be ok in my gooseneck?

Not yet as I need some time to find a vet for shots, get blood for coggins that sort of thing.  I really loved how quiet she was, I touched her all overher fuzzy little body and while she watched, she never once showed me she would bite or kick.  She didn't really like just near her belly button messed with, but all she did was give me the  "hey, please move on, I don't like it", look.  I think she will make a very nice little all around prospect, and a dependable trail mount.  Basically I just need to gets all the specs figured out and then talk to the guys at the barn about the quarantine period, blah, blah blah...

No, LOL!  Kind of like a dog's chest, really deep, but not very wide?  That's my best guess.

I'm glad you went and looked at her.  Pictures never quite give you the full story.  Kind of like buying any leather product - I want to see it in person!

What kind of trailer is she used to traveling in?  None?  If she isn't used to any particular kind of trailer, then if your gooseneck is a stock trailer, I think that would be the best.  Something big and open would be more inviting for a first time in a trailer.

So, where are the pictures?Big Smile

LOL, yes that's it!  I have a 3 horse slant GN, which I can move the dividers around so she can move a bit.  She was a total FUZZBALL, and really needed some serious grooming, almost to the point of needing clippers.  Not neglected or anything, she just stays out 24/7, so like my TB who is out most of the time, she's got some good ole fashioned PITA rainrot to deal with.  I will try and load the pics this evening, I didn't take many as I like what I saw enough not to be too worried.

If you go under general discussion I posted "New trailer question", there is a link to pics of what my trailer looks like.

WOW! Nice trailer!  Do you have a very trailer-wise horse she could travel with?  That might make her more comfortable and easier to load.  If that horse is in the front, she could have the rest of the space for herself, or, since she's on the small side, she might be more comfortable with the next divider closed.  You'll have to see how she'll react with the divider.  Is it a long trip?

    Re: Need an honest critique

Thanks!  I had been waiting for a tax refund the right size before I could purchase the one I wanted.  We are still awaiting feedback from a vet (that I trust with opinions on horses, he has never been wrong...so far, lol).  Its about an hour and a half, mostly interstate or at least 4 lane highway.  I have my Paint which travels really well, so I might put him in the front and let her decide if she needs the divider or not.  My only concern is she is REALLY small, I'm again waiting on my vet to see what size he thinks she will top out at, plus he's checking all the bloodwork etc.  I really like her, but my friend said to really have a vet take a good look (he's going out with me today to look at her physically and take a peek at her sire and dam).  She may not be a lot of money, but I don't want to waste what I have on something that won't be able to do anything, but walk around, you know?  Keep your fingers crossed!

Besides needing a serious clip job, can anyone see any glaring problems?

Hi, she seems to have "knockknees" and her hind legs seem to be swollen.
