Re: Broke my knee, feel stupid...
Don't feel too bad. March 1 I was sitting on my mare 'stone cold still' and fell off because I was laughing so hard. Broke my wrist. I just got out of my cast last week and into an arm splint.
Your fracture should heal right up but be really careful about the torn ligament thing. (usually takes longer for that part to feel better) Do your therapy when told, all of it. PT really makes a difference.
Take care

Re: Broke my knee, feel stupid...
Oh that truly stinks. I dislocated my knee cap in January and it was awful. I can walk and all now and am back to sports just recently but it will be a long time before it is back to normal strength. Yours sounds a lot worse. I sure hope it all works out. And like others said make sure you get a good doctor and push for information etc.

Re: Broke my knee, feel stupid...
Sorry, I've been out alot this week. Thanks everyone for your words of encouragement and healing. I found out the real scoop and will be having surgery tomorrow morning. When my knee bent to the inside, the bottom of the femur (thigh bone) came down and crushed the top of the tibia (shin bone) on the outside of the knee joint. The surgeon will rebuild the bone with grafts and I'll have a plate and pins. Out of work for 2-3 weeks and therapy for lord knows how long. Argh... He said it's a serious injury, my knee will never be 100% right and I will develope artheritis. The good news is I'm not afraid to get back on! I can't wait to get back on. I also know that the next time a horse is acting squirly, I will NOT get on it!! My husband said Clinton Anderson would be ashamed of me for not thinking safety first.
Everyong, please ride safely!! I'll try to access the forums from home and post updates. Take care!!

We'll all be thinking of you, wishing you a speedy recovery . I'm glad this has'nt discouraged you from getting back on, that will probably help you get through the therapy.
Thanks. I can't wait till the dr. tells me I can ride again!! At least I can go and rub their noses over the gate!

Re: Broke my knee, feel stupid...
I'm back to work! Thanks again everyone for the words of encouragement.
The surgery on 4/26 went well and the surgeon is happy with my progress so far. I'm now allowed to bend my knee as much as I can, but still no weight on the leg for at least another month. I'll be starting physical therapy this week. Still have some pain but it's manageable. I'm now the proud owner of a metal plate and 7 screws in the top of my left tibia. I got to see it on the latest x-ray. Weird! Guess I'll be fun at the airport! LOL
My husband has been great through all of this. He's 100% in charge of the horses right now. He's doing so much right now, I'm going to owe him big time when I'm back on my feet.
I only visit the horses over the gate right now because if they move suddenly, I'm unable to get out of the way quickly. I can't wait to get back in with them, but I know I need to do what the doctor says. He's a sports medicine orthopedic surgeon, and I've made it clear to him that I need to get back on the horse! He said I'll be able to ride again, "Just don't fall off again". I guess that was his sense of humor!!
I'll post updates periodically with my progress.
Ta ta!

Glad you're doing well , going back to work will probably make the time fly by.
It has so far. I have survived day #2! I'm a go-getter kind of person and having to rely on other people to do my running around bothers me. I just have to realize my limitations for now and let them do what they need to do for me. The people I work with are great. I'll take them to lunch when I'm back to "normal"!

I am glad things are getting better. You will be back to yourself in no time. I bet your co-workers will like it if you take them out to lunch. Keep us posted on your progress.

Re: Broke my knee, feel stupid...
Ive injured my knee before (dislocated) and it was not fun at all. It wasnt from riding though, it was from gymnastics. But I couldnt ride for two months.
You really shouldnt be mad at yourself, just take this as a learning experience. Anyways, I hope you get better soon, and sorry about your knee!

I'll definately use this as a learning experience. I don't want to go through anything like this again!
Thanks for the good thoughts, guys!

Re: Broke my knee, feel stupid...
Just a little update. I had my 2nd physical therapy session today. Since last Thursday, I've gained another 30 degrees of bend in my knee!! I'm doing my exercises at home, too and it's really helping! It hurts sometimes, but as they say "no pain, no gain". I go back to the surgeon on the 2nd. Hopefully, he'll tell me to start putting weight on it. I never realize how much we take being able to walk for granted. I can't wait to get rid of the crutches and be normal again!!
