Maybe it's like the bend and snap.

Oh, I thought it was maybe a reference to the "Texas Dip", although I still don't understand how that relates to hitting a jump!

Oh, Okay. When you said bend and snap, I knew exactly what you ment. I just watched that day before yesterday. How funny. Thanks

ok this is simple your not doing your  slide and bow properly

Slide and bow. If at least three people admit to not knowing what this is, then I think we agree that this is not the best word choice. I thought of "bend and snap" too. :)

Maybe they're referring to your position. I can see the "slide" as a crest release. The bow? Closing your hip angle, I suppose. I think I'm on the right track here.

Your guess is as good as mine on that one. I understand the bend and snap though.

Sorry i guess i should have explained what the 'slide and bow' is

It is when you lean fowards elbows and knukles on the horses neck and your bum doesnt come out of the saddle

You're making it sound like you're supposed to lay on your horse's neck. No, that's definitely not how you should be up in two-point.

That's just a picture I found off of the internet. Although she doesn't have "perfect" equitation, her butt is out of the saddle. Just to show you that's how your two-point is. If you sat in the saddle over a jump, you're adding more weight and interfering with your horse's motion. Now THAT is a reason for a horse to hit its leg on a jump.

Ok, now I'm confused. I have seen riders do both. It does make more sense to lift your bum out of the seat so you're not interfearing with the horse.

    Re: foot hits jumps

You need to make it as easy as you can for your horse by not sitting.

That is not making it easy for the horse.

Thanks for the tip. The horse in the photo looks like he has to try harder to get up over the fence.

    Re: foot hits jumps

Exactly. You want to think of it as jumping with your horse, and sitting over a jump makes it harder for them to get into the air. You don't want to jump FOR your horse, (getting ahead) but getting left behind and just sitting over a jump can cause a crash, knock, etc.

So make sure you go with the motion and let him bring you up.

I do notice in a couple of pics that my dad took, I am sitting over the jump. In others I don't. I just need to practice more. Thanks.

    Re: foot hits jumps

agreed -- you do NOT want your butt in the saddle, it should be just above.  Also, your elbows should not be touching your horse's neck, only a light pressure from your hands to support your upper body in your crest release.
