She does it on purpose - I just know it!

She would be my father in law's mare who refuses to follow any schedule.  According to my records and charts, Peanut was not due until May 12. Peanut had her baby sometime after midnight.  We're guessing she was only about 6 hours when we saw her at 8 this morning. Sorrel filly with four white socks and a big ole blaze down her face.

I swear this mare does it just to give me fits. This is her fourth foal and the fourth time she's been weeks early - or what seems to be weeks early. You'd think I'd learn. At least it wasn't twins this time.  Pics when I get them

Mares tend to foal the same length as previous gestations, so you should probably learn hehe ;)

Glad it all went well! Would love to see photos!! Can you have your mare talk to mine, my girls are OVERdue! LOL

now i'm second guessing all my mares. I mean, I know I was there when they were bred and wrote down each time and we had them vet checked twice - once to make sure they were in foal and then a few months later to get a better idea of how far along they were and everything matched up. But Peanut ....

Next year I'm just going to subtract two weeks from when she was bred and go from there.  Two years ago she foaled on April 16 and had twins and was two weeks early - we jsut figured it was because of twins. According to our vet a foal won't survive (usually, i might add) if they are born more than 12 days early. Whether there is any truth to that I don't know, i've never looked it up. And last year she had her foal May 20 when I figured her due around the first of June.  none of my other mares give me this problem. They are right on schedule - only now .. are they??

by the way, I love the little goat in your sig. We had two pigmy's until a nieghbor accidently let his hunting dog out (he was a little drunk at the time and forgot to latch the pen) and now we're down to one.

Granted, most of my foaling knowledge is mini based, and they are slightly different, but... anything beyond day 300 is fair game. I even know of some born before that that survive. Day 320 and beyond is more normal.

Sorry to hear about your one goatie :( And thanks, that's Raisinette, aka Raisin, one of my 7 Nigerian Dwarves. I also have a 2nd gen Mini Oberhasli and a pygmy. LOVE my goaties ;)
