    It's a Boy!!!!

Please Welcome "Irish Love" (Rish for short) to the world! He was born 4/26/08 at about 11:40 PM. His Dam is "Bailey's Irish Cream", a Pearlino QH and His Sire is "Tanion's Love", a Greying Friesian Sport Horse (Friesian/T-bred). Rish SEEMS to be either a Palomino or a Champaign... Not quite sure yet... He is MUCH lighter now then in these pics. I'll get more pics to show His real color later on today. But Anyway, Here's Rish.  :grin5:

Congratulations!!!!!  I know you say that he is darker in the pics but just from the tone of the coat he looks like he might be champagne colored.  That is quite the intersting mix in his pedigree.  I can't wait to see him in more light when he is a little sturdier on his legs to see his true conformation.  Those legs on new borns always crack me up.

Awww!  He's adorable (especially the tummy scratching picture).

Are his eyes light (blue?)?  He's got the pinkish skin down...  I agree you might have a Champagne.

Well.... I'm gonna have to get back to you on the eye color... I know they're dark but I don't think they're brown. But He's not thrilled about the idea of me down on my knees looking straight into his eyes... LOL From what I can tell they're one of three colors.... Green, Blue, or grey.... Whichever it is, it's a dark version of the color... Once He gets a bit bigger and out in real light, I'll let you know what we got. I'm not too familiar with the genetics of a Champagne... His mom is a perlino and His dad is a greying out black that carries the red and black factors. Could we get a champagne from those two?? I'm still leaning toward Pali but I'm waiting until He sheds his baby fuzz to make the final call... Either way, He's is stunning and going to make one FLASHY show horse for someone when He gets older! LOL

What do you plan on naming him?

    Re: It's a Boy!!!!

Mommy or Daddy has to have the Champagne gene.  However, mommy could have it and it would be hard to tell since she's a double dilute or perhaps she's masquerading as a double dilute because of the Champagne gene (have you had her tested?).

I'm not well versed in Champagne genes either but read up on them here (I tend to take everyone's new babies as an excuse to brush up on my basic genetics):

Basically what they say is it's not uncommon for the newborn's coat to be darker than you'd expect, that they'll be born with blue eyes that will likely change to green/amber, and that the skin will initially be pink and darken with age.

    Re: It's a Boy!!!!

Hunters&Jumpers, His Registered name will be "Irish Love" (Mom is Bailey's Irish Cream and Dad is Tanion's Love). We're calling him Rish for short. LOL

QHAllAround, Turns out his eyes are Dark Silvery Blue (Used a flash light to help find out.. LOL Would you believe this not even 24 hour old colt let me shine a light right onto his eye!!! What a sweetie!). So I guess this makes him a Champagne? LOL Guess time will tell! :) Had Mom tested. She is a Double Dilute, carries 2 cream genes. Know that for sure.

    Re: It's a Boy!!!!

    I like the name.

Could be mom is a double dilute champagne and "Irish" got her champagne gene along with one of the cremes.  It seems odd that a straight palomino would have blueish eyes and pinkish skin.  It will be fun watching him change colors as he grows up and guessing as to what he is :)
