    Critiquing Baby

I'm thinking of buying this horse either today or tomorrow so tell me what you think quick.

Okay her name is Baby, she's a 4 1/2 yo Palamino with an undecided breed but part QH we think. She's only partially broke but my trainer is coming with us and is going to ride her and see if she thinks it's a good horse but i want to hear what you guys think. When we first went to the owners house , he had gotton called to a friends house so we had to wait on him and the horse came right up to the fence and let us pet her. Before the guy got her, she was in a field with horses who kicked her if she tried to eat so she was skinny and scarred when he got but she  has filled out quite nicely. The owner was going to to finish breaking her this summer for his daughters but he's getting a divorce and moving so can't keep her with him. She's $500 and comes with all the tack and al her stuff. The pad is in shreds and the saddle is a little flat from not being on a proper rack so I'll have to buy a pad and possibly a new saddle but it'll do for now. The bridle, brushes, reins, halter, lead line and bucket have been used and show it but they're in good condition. Baby's smart too. My dad came with me and was picking grass for her and after the first handful she saw who was feeding her and followed him along the fenceline when he went to get more. I don't have pics but her legs were good but I didn't get to see her feet but she'll pick them all up.

So I think you have enough information, tell me what you think!

The most important thing for a one horse owner is if you like and trust her and feel safe.

As long as she moves well and you really like her get her!

The fact that you will have a trainer to help you will mean you can work through any normal training issues.

Good luck! I hope your training likes her too.

I haven't bought her yet but I told her owner that I was coming this week to see her again and I'm going to  give him a down payment and take pictures. My trainer liked her  but she said she was a little small. I didn't want a big horse in the first place so that works out great! Even if I do grow too tall for her I can breed her to a larger horse. I know I'm not suposed to breed but I'm going to keep both her and the foal so is it okay then?Embarrassed I'll keep ya updated!

Not nessesarily. (it seems like you know that, judging from the face) :)

My thought would be either get a bigger horse now OR when you need a bigger horse go buy a bigger one instead of breeding another one.  You said that she is an undecided breed and so I would say, NO, don't breed her.  If you want to train your own horse later then you can get a weanling, or yearling or something like that.

Dont worry about  the height,  I have a 10 hand donkey and  I test rode her to make sure she would ride.. She carried me around like she did it forever.  If you plan on riding her in Hunter the only thing is you need to make sure your foot falls in the correct spot, but if your just wanting a horse to ride for fun then  you should be fine.Yes good luck! and lets us know if ya get her.

Okay, so we went to put a down payment on her and I got pics while we were there. I learned she was mouth trained(is that what you call it, where you cluck and they go?) and that's how I got the photos of her running.  She was the tiniest bit jittery when we first got there and I went in the fence to pet her but she calmed right down when her owner pulled up. Should I be worried?

    Here's the pics:

Sorry I couldn't get them rotated so that they aren't the right way up.

    So, whaddya think?
