Just a suggestion on topics for a future issue of the magazine. I read in another source that there is a new sterilization technique for stallions. Bascially, it's similar to the "getting snipped" of humans, only somehow the testicle is crushed and withers up into a benign lump, so the hormones don't affect behavior and can't breed.
I would like to see how the general public responds to this. They claim an altered horse would have it permanantly marked on his health papers or registration, etc. and that there's been no know "reversals" but it's only been a few years since they started attempting this. I think it would be opening the door to unscrupulous dealers trying to pass off "geldings' as studs for the lower end, grade horses, or they could (more scary in my opinion) promote a horse as "altered" when he's not and the horse go on to maturity and dangerous behavior, siring unwanted colts along the way.
Surely they could tattoo the altered horses, but WHAT IF it did ever "reverse"? Tattoos fade and I like the visisble evidence of no testicles back there. It also lends thought to cryptorchid stallions and why they aren't tattooed when the remaining testicle couldnt' be found? At least if a horse acted studdish, you could look for "the mark".. but alas, I guess there's alway someone that could alter a tattoo or brand.
This is why I would like to see an article done on this topic. Your staff could delve much deeper and find more information than I can. It would affect all aspecs of the horse industry.
