What is a 'bent barn"?

    What is a 'bent barn"?

    First understand that in Az, most "barns" are mare motels, coral panel stalls with a metal roof overhead. The nicer "barns" are the... modular looking? barns such as MD barns.

    So anyhow, a lot of the farms in Ky have "4 bent barn" or "6 bent barn" ect, and I have no clue what a bent barn is ;)
    Please enlighten me!

     a bent is a section of a barn frame

    so I guess the more bents the more sections in length.

    Bents are actually the individual assembled sections of timber that form the framework of a barn.
     
     You may have seen pictures of a good ole fashion barn raising - where you see the sections of frame that are built on the ground then raised by hand into place with long poles by a bunch of people - the section is a bent - I have been to a barn raising that's how I know that =;->

     Dang, I was going to guess that it was a barn that the hay truck had backed into one too many times!  Stick out tongue  I guess it's just barnspeak for "stick-built."
