Dog [&] My horse just got shoes, is there anything I need to do to take care of them thats different that barehooves?

Stick out tongueMy appaloosa had horible hooves, I put her on mineral but she wouldn't eat it! I even made treats with it but she still didn't like it. I am putting hoof flex on her hooves and that helped a little. So now she has shoes. I just need to know if there's any thing different that I need to do with her hooves. Please help!

You can keep using the hoof flex.  Pick out her feet whether or not she is wearing pads.  Otherwise just get her trimmed regularly and reset.

i dont do anything special to my horse that wears shoes than to my horse that doesnt wear shoes. just keep them picked out and keep them trimmed just like you would with bare feet.

You didn't say what is wrong with your horses hooves, but I would guess thin walls.  In addition to what the previous posters have said, I would suggest applying Keratex to the hooves.  Be sure to read the directions.  Also, to help strengthen the hooves while your horse is wearing shoes, and to grow out a stronger hoof, you could add 1 packet of gelatin 2 times per day for 30 days to the feed, then drop to 1 packet per day.

Hope this helps.  We have one horse with thin walls to his hooves also.

Heaven would no heaven be, were a horse not waiting there for me.
