I'll give my final word on this nice green T&A from Canada - the horses eat it up!  I hope the feed store continues to have this wonderful hay that is so affordable (comparatively speaking!)  It's a longer drive for me and I have to hook upthe trailer and do all the physical work myself, but it's worth it.  :)

Sounds like you need to stock up!  Glad it worked out for you.

. . .and ride that pony fast

be young and wild and free
    like Texas in 1880. . .

"If you choose to introduce beet pulp do it a little at a time and with some kind of tastey addition.. We add flax seed and rice bran.  Even my pickiest TBs like the beet pullp."

    Barbara,

Don't want to hijack this thread but I'm curious about the flax seed.  I feed Briahna a Cushing's type senior feed and it's mainly beet pulp (SHE LOVES IT!), but I see they carry flax seed at the feed store.  Can you just feed the seeds or do you have to process them somehow?  How much do you feed?

We are trying a different supplement (much cheaper) but I see it lacks flaxseed.

    Thanking you in advance,

Bev and Briahna (and Carra too, as I make her buckets too!)

Bev, I feed a little extra flax seed (about 1/3 cup ground) and I grind it in a coffee grinder first.  Flax is a nice supplement  in my opinion because it's a source of fat and it keeps their coat nice and shiny even if they grow a little winter coat.  I top dress their lunch with it, which is soaked beet pulp.  As I understand it, it's not a good idea to feed the whole seeds to them as they don't get the benefits of the flax seeds because it doesn't digest.

Thanks for the advice.  I guess I'll have to haunt some garage sales to see if I can find a coffee grinder.  I always heard they were good to keep in the tackshed in case you need to grind meds or vitamins.
