    Preakness 2009

We're a week from the second jewel of the Triple Crown.

Can Mine That Bird make it 2 for 2 or will he be upset?

    What do you guys think?

Hmmmmmm, hard to say; looks like I Want Revenge and General Quarters will be there also.  I know one thing though, I WILL bet on him this time, not just consider it like I did Sunday!!! {kicking myself in the butt}  OUCH!

Wouldn't it be amazing if a $9,500 gelding took the first two races of the Triple Crown? I'll keep my fingers crossed for him!

     It sure would be.

I'll be cheering him on for sure.

It would be even more amazing if I bet on him and he won.

Have they announced for sure if Mine That Bird is going to run or not?  I read that soon after the Kentucky Derby they were still debating whether to run him or not.

Oh yeah, he's there.  But I just found out that I Want Revenge's fetlock ligament injury is more serious than they first thought, so he won't be.

Ohh yeah I know somebody who bet on Mine that Bird for the kentucky derby and we were making fun of him cuz he was so far behind and then we just see this red streak comin up from behind!! it was absolutely amazing!! I'm not sure if you look at the past 2 horses who have won the kentucky derby exactly like Mine that Bird did, well they both went down hill and fastttt!! not trying to be a party pooper lol I mean I really hope that Mine that Bird winss but it's kinda hard to imagine.

Someone on another forum (marestare I believe) said that Mine That Bird was bought by his prev owner for the 9500ish, but the current owner paid $400,000! ?

Also heard that Curlin's owner bought Russia Alexander, and MAY race her in the Preakness? And that when she's retired she may be bred to Curlin.

Just stuff I've heard, have not researched it or anything ;)

It'd be great to see Rachel Alexandra race vs the colt.

She's just as good as they are.

The articles I've read about it's said that Jess Jackson hasn't decided if the filly is going to the Preakness.

She's at Belmont Park working before her next start which will be on Belmont Day.

Jess Jackson will prob keep racing her beyond 3 like he did with Curlin.

I think it is possible. He looked good (physically) coming in the race, he just didn't look so good on papers. I bet on Pioneer of the nile, should have done win-place.

I don't know about General Quarters. I like the story, and it would be nice if he wins Preakness, but I don't like the looks of him. (I spent some time working with a vet, so I learned to pick up on suttle soreness signs)

Rachel Alexandra is a good contender also.

I also know somebody who bet on Mine that Bird. She bet on him just because he is a NM horse

Borel Commits to 'Rachel;' Filly to Preakness

If 'Rachel' is entered into the Preakness as it sounds she maybe Borel will ride her instead of Mine that Bird.

That's exactly why I was thinking about betting on him (and am kicking myself for not) - my best friend is a jockey's agent and I have visited her many times during Ruidiso's meet.  Oh well, you know what they say about hind site. . .

That's interesting SB, have not read the article yet, but he was specifically asked that question by Donna Brothers after the Derby, and he pretty much said he'd have to go with Bird. . . guess maybe something has changed his mind.
