how to get the best price on a horse?

I like a horse that has no price listed.  So far, I've researched comparable(sp?) horses and noted their prices.  I've saved them so I can ad their links to the offer.  Now, I need to know how to make a reasonable offer without being insulting.  The seller is a dealer with many horses and many prices, some I belive to be very unreasonable.  I have come up with a price I believe to be very fair,  but I need to bring it across as not a lowball type offer.

      Anyone have any ideas??

I can provide the web site link and the links to the horses if they would be of any help.

Well, you could say "I came across your horse Daisy (whatever name lol) and was possibly interested. How much are you asking?"

    "Daisy is $2500"

"Oh, well, I was looking to spend $1500. If you decide to consider less, please let me know"

IDK, i"m sure others have better ways :)

Have you had any contact with the seller yet? If not, just email and see what they were thinking as far as price.

I always have horses for sale, and I recently sold some as best offer - I got offers from $50 to $900+ per horse. It really just depended on the person's situation and I understood where every offer was coming from.

This isn't a science report or debate, so you don't have to include references in your offer. It is good that you did your homework however and have an idea of whether the horse is in your price range.

Shoot, in this economy, people are just happy to get offers at all!  We initially listed our gelding for sale at 25k and now have him listed at 10k and are just hoping someone offers us something, he's been for sale over a year and we havent gotten anything!

Please don't forget the vet check!  No offense intended at all, just a reminder!  It can have an impact on the final price of the horse.

Thanks Tx spots,  Yes I have considered the vet check (+ x-rays if needed) and the cost of shipping in my budget.  If I didn't hubby would never approve! LOL

I know - my horse was appraised at $45K last year. I just sold him for $5,500! Nobody's looking at anything above $10K now and are haggling everything. I had to sell, so I was stuck between a rock and a hard place. But I was also able to pick up a young redhead for pretty inexpensive...
