So it's been crazy hot & humid here, so I decide to go to the barn in shorts and wear my chaps.  And, of course, my chaps have mold on them (EWW).  They are either suede or synthetic suede.  Any tips on how to clean them to get rid of the mold?  Thanks!

P.S. washer is not an option due to the conchos and yes I brush them.  I am looking for a way to kill the mold/mildew.  Thank you.

Can you remove the conchos? (most have a chicago screw) I've washed mine many times in the washer in cold water and hung to dry...if you don't want to wash? maybe take a sponge and woolite?

I take mine to the same cleaners I take my good felt hats to, but mine are leather.  I keep them in the house usually (unless we're on the road) so I don't have to take them but maybe twice a year.

I wash my chinks with the conchos left on in the washing machine and then dry on the line.

They come out great but then they are just dirty, no mold.

 yup, wash in a washer.  Remove all silver.  Wash with woolite.  When rinse water starts to fill pull chaps out, add 8 cups of Downy fabric softner, HAS to be downy.  put chaps back in and let soak for 20 minutes.  Hang to dry NOT IN THE SUN on a wooden hanger or like I do, over the shower curtain rod.  Make sure you have a couple days to let them dry fully before needing them again.  

You should be able to remove all the metal parts unless they are rivetted on.  Even then, you can still use the washer.  I use a LOT of Woolite, and then a LOT of fabric softener, and lay flat to dry.  Be sure to brush the nap down while they are wet.  When the chaps are almost dry, I will wear them around the house for a little bit to kind of stretch them back out and fit them to my legs.  The very last part is tossing them in the dryer for a few minutes on low heat to soften them up.

I've washed pretty much every pair of chaps I've owned, and even dyed a few :)
