    Anyone have a Netbook?

I just bought one, but havn't taken it out of the box yet. does anyone have one? if so what brand and what do you think about it?

Mines a Asus, i havn't heard of the brand before but all the online reviews were really positive and the people at Best Buy said it was better then HP and Dell.

I don't but a friend just bought one.  I dunno, looked like a laptop to me.  With a smaller keyboard that was harder to type on.  I think the people at Best Buy may have been trying to sell you something, LOL.

With the price of laptops now I would have bought a full laptop rather than a netbook. Most do not even have a DVD/cd drive, have too small a keyboard, and too small a screen.  A friend just bought a Toshiba laptop for $328 at Walmart a few weeks back.

I have a netbook and love it.  I have a Gateway.. the larger of the two models (too lazy to look it up - I'm not currently on my netbook).  I went to the store and tried typing on all of them.  The Gateway keyboard felt no different than a normal laptop keyboard to me.

My netbook was at least $200 cheaper than any laptop (and we're talking cheap-o laptops).  It had more ram, memory, etc. and more than DOUBLE the battery life of many/most laptops.

But the ones I have seen have no drives for DVD/CD, that would be a dealkiller for me, I use a lot of disc media.  Plus smaller screen, I have bad eyes anyway.  But for folks who want small portability and don't mind small viewing screens, I can see how it would be a boon.

That is correct, and something I didn't think of until I got the netbook home.  Hubby simply bought an external DVD/CD RW drive that connects via USB.  I can see how it would be a dealbreaker for some, though!

    Re: Anyone have a Netbook?

I recently bought my daughter an Acer for school, and I'm jealous.  Compact, lightweight, and CHEAP.  No drive, but we could use an external if we needed to.  I just look online if I want to add something for her.  I know I like to travel with mine and I bought the smallest laptop I could find when I was shopping for myself 18 mos ago and it's still too heavy to carry around.  I also spent 4 times as much on it.  I love my laptop, but would have been just as happy with the netbook and not had to lug around so much weight.

Excellent computer for basic functions.  Especially for those who carry it back and forth for business or school.  Maybe not so much for gaming or other media heavy uses.

Hubby works in the computer industry and he tells me Microsoft is going to be getting away from software on CD rom.  Apparently it will be available online (which it already is) and on something like a thumb (USB) drive type device.

    Re: Anyone have a Netbook?

    thanks everyone for your input

. i used it an bunch last night and LOVE it. its super fast, light.. i;m talking 2.5 pounds i can bearly tell its in my bag. And the smaller keyboard isnt to bad for me i have small hands anyway lol.

i've very happy :] the reviews i looked at were online from customers on the bestbuy website. i do agree not having a disc drive can be a deal breaker its simple to fix that either dowloading from online or the external drive.

    Re: Anyone have a Netbook?

I've been looking at these myself.  It looks like they can do anything a regular laptop can do with some big plusses - more portable (lighter), longer battery life, can run any software a regular laptop can run.

They don't have drives, but an external drive isn't a big deal to me.  I guess some people might not like it but I hardly ever use my drives anyhow except to load new software.  If you use it to watch movies I could see it being an issue.
