Re: Critique Rondeau: 5y/o RPSI gelding
Well, he's a cute guy. Nice hip, looks to have a fairly level top line, his pastern and shoulder look a little steep, and his neck looks rather heavy. He tracks up nicely, and appears to be a nice fellow. My main question is 'what does RPSI stand for

What do you want to do with him? I mean, he's cute, but there are a lot of nicer looking warmbloods out there for dressage, he looks flat in the trot pic, do you have a video? Is this your horse or a horse someone is selling? Warmbloods mature very slowly, so he may just be going through a gangly phase, since he looks a little butt high. Plus he is a total furball in those pics so you cant get that clear a view...

Re: Critique Rondeau: 5y/o RPSI gelding
I think your mare is a lot nicer, but he IS chestnut, so I have to give him some Red Horse Props! I like his hip and stifle angle, but below that, he gets a bit to straight behind, especially through the hocks. I like his back pasterns, nice length and slope, but his front ones look upright and thickened or swollen? Maybe it's just his fuzzy hair. His shoulder is a little straighter than the mare too but he has a nice big scapula and good bone throughout, which I always like to see. I'd like to see his neck coming out of his shoulders a little more upright for a dressage horse, but that could be just the way he is standing. I like his quiet eye, he looks like I would like to hug him!

Re: Critique Rondeau: 5y/o RPSI gelding
Yes, DR3, his front pasterns are steeper than I would like, but doesn't make for a rougher ride. The trot picture really doesn't do him justice, but it's the best one I had to show. He doesn't have extravagant movement, but steps nicely and uses himself well His neck is thick, but it kind of goes with the rest of his "thick" body. RPSI = Rheinland Pfalz-saar International, which is an extension of its German parent verband. Ronnie is a Swedish WB/TB cross. He is a nice guy - very friendly and has a good work ethic. Thanks for the critique!

FCP - Ronnie is mine. I hope to event him. He's quite athletic, quick and bold, so I think that will be a good choice for him. He does have more "huntery" movement, rather than being more extravagant, but should do fine in dressage. He does put on a pretty good winter coat! That way, I don't have to blanket him very often - easier for me.

Re: Critique Rondeau: 5y/o RPSI gelding
Hey, Solaris - I hoped you'd see this. I always enjoy your critiques! Oooo! Red Horse points - think that will help in dressage? He is more upright than I would like, but we're dealing with it. Can't have everything! He still is a nice ride. Ronnie puts on a lot of winter hair everywhere, including his front pasterns. I guess his ankles get cold? Guess I should have at least trimmed those before the pictures. We hope to event at some level and probably do more hunter/jumper stuff, so hopefully the neck set will be fine. Thanks! Off to see what you think about Cleo....

Re: Critique Rondeau: 5y/o RPSI gelding
Aside from being a little too straight up and down, I think he looks a little thick through the throat latch, a little too cresty... and overall like momma's been giving him a few too many groceries and not enough work out ;) lol definately better than seeing a starving horse, but when you get serious about making him an athlete it is something you will want to watch. You can use a neck sweat and jowel sweat to help with the extra weight on his neck and then excersize will take care of the rest.

Re: Critique Rondeau: 5y/o RPSI gelding
Ronnie could definitely benefit from more work. He's also built like a barrel, so always gives the impression of being well-fleshed. His neck and throatlatch are thick. That's the way he is! He is a very easy keeper, so finding the balance between enough energy and not too many calories has been a challenge. When he gets into harder work, some of this will take care of itself. Thanks!
