    makeshift halter

Can anyone explain to me how to make a makeshirt halter, like out of a lead rope or something. I've seen ppl do it but I've never quite figured out how to do it myself. I figured it's probably a good thing to know in case of an emergency. Thanks! Grin

Have you ever seen the Man From Snowy River? In the barn right after he's hired, that's one way to do it.

I like to start with a sliding loop on the rope. Put that loop around where the noseband would normally go. The rest of your rope should go around behind your horse's ears. Bring the end down and tie to the original loop. Trailing end of the lead rope should end up on the left side of your horse to lead it by. I run outside really quickly and take a picture, in case I explained it crudely.

mine is done differently then the one already pictured.
step 1- make a loop with the lead rope though the snap.
step 2- place the loop over your horses head.
step 3- take the rope hanging down and place it over your horses nose then back though the original loop at your horses neck.
the remaining rope is your lead.

    i wish i had a picture.
Without my horse, im just human. Without me, my horse is just an animal. But when you put us together we become an unstoppable team!
