This is how RR imagines us and our amazing technical abilities:

    Hi all -
Your poems are lovely, SH I know you are one and only and perfect - what else would a Secret Sister of mine be! We are a pair at heart- yes I am known far and wide in these parts for finding a deal and getting the best price. It's kind of like a hobby I suppose - stems form the days of too much month at the end of the money!
I don't have a lot of time today - must get work done- so I will check in late tonight to see what's been going on-
As far as technical ability -please don't step on that nerve - I worked for a man once who was a bit of a pain because he knew I knew more than his PHD educated self in the tech area- Even though it was my job to be the Tech Coord. He always hated it that I could do things he could not. (I could feel it with every interaction with the guy) It bugged him to death that I did not have the education he did but could understand those tech things that he could not. I'll never forget the time he had to come get me to help with an issue in his computer in his office - ( it took me all of 3-4 minutes a few clicks and I fixed it - I think he almost died. BTW - I happen to be wearing black Jeans and a black turtleneck today with my silver adorned Brighton belt- all goes with the image I need to maintain considering my Martial arts background - - does that fit your image RR?

Starz... I think it's really cool that you're a teckie! When I took IQ tests in HS, my best score (almost 100%) was mechanical reasoning. Guess I should have become a car mechanic? Confused Obviously, my high score wasn't spelling! Blush Anyway... I can follow instructions and visualize what they're saying, but I don't have the patience that needs to accompany that type of skill... Anyway... back to what you were saying.... my father is an excellent example of what you're talking about. He started out as a welder, started working building aircraft, then started teaching welding for an aeronautics company, then eventually became a aerospace engineer helping build the various spacecraft during the space race (60's - early 70's?). Before he retired, his company had patented a welding procedure for spacecraft he developed, and he was in charge of his company's research and development lab, supervising PhD's, etc. He did this all with only a formal HS education. Everything else was IQ, rabid reading, and learning by working his way up in the business. I remember about the time I was graduating from HS, lots of space engineers were being laid off. He didn't, and in fact still received some pay increases after that until his retirement. So... formal education isn't everything.... although in this day and time I doubt he'd have been given the chance without that piece of paper to get him in the front door.

Seahorse - ES has been terribly slow for me too. Sometimes I can't get the pages to load at all...

Well... this evening I took my PS (Poor Son) out to dinner, and loaded up on dog food in preparation for our being potentiall iced in this weekend. Got more hay yesterday. Now, hubby's getting wood to burn in case the ice breaks tree limbs and powerlines. The horses will get their PJ's (aka: blankets) back on when the time comes... Have I said how I detest being cold! Well, Luce, I guess genius is inherited! Now we know where you got it. Starz, we have no doubts about your tech ability, you are the only one that help us solve our problems!! Running around like a Woman In Black today, fighting computer ignorance and banishing stupidity. (It was a funny picture though, wasn't it?) I know how to use my computer, but don't ask me to explain it!

PS- Love the TV! Eat your heart out RR.

Yes... my husband would certainly like that TV, or one similar. I've got a really old, boxey, big screen. When we got married, he had purchased this really nice wall unit/set, but it only accomodates a fairly small TV. So... being kind of white-trashy, I put this semi huge big screen in our bedroom, on the opposite wall of our bed. (When we move - hopefully - into a fancier house I won't have it there, but for now.... I can really veg-out in my big bed watching my movies....lol!) Was nice while I was recuperating from my surgery! rr... don't think too badly of me... I do like some television.... and.... I really don't like going to movie theaters. I prefer to wait and see movies in the comfort of my own house, where I can stop the action if I want and go check out the refrigerator...

Wendy - somehow I missed you were not feeling well - I think I am finally climbing out of the hole that contained the 10 plagues that destroyed me for the last 3 weeks or so. I hope you find an answer and can get to feeling better fast- I wouldn't wish the last few weeks I had on anyone!

I read the thing about the turkey - that's wild???

Lucy - what a cool story about your dad! Unfortunatly it's been a few years since that job and I haven't really stayed caught up with all the newest stuff - but I can usually just figure it out if there is an issue. For me it seems to be kind of intuitive. You really need to stay constantly up to date with it all to be on top - really monthly stuff changes- - so being a few years out of date is pretty antiquated in the tech world. Spelling and grammar for sure my weakness - but funny thing my DD excels in those areas - she loves languages and writing- can't help but edit things she sees written etc. we are true opposites in that regard. I grew up with my parents speaking half German and half English - so I never mastered either one - I have a unique mix going on - especially in my grammar and word order!

Lucy-Glad your pleased with how things are turning out with your surgery! I love having a TV in the bedroom - Now all I need is another laptop so I can take my wireless connection down there. I have a desktop in my office, My DD has a desktop in her room and my DH has a laptop he takes with him all the time - so I am locked to the office if I want computer access. That would just take the cake if I could sit and watch TV in bed and post to the forum.

Funny thing I like all my tech stuff to be hidden - like TV's in cabinets with doors that close - etc. I like to have it around I just don't want to see it all the time.

Good Morning! Wow, I am always amazed when I read of all your talents and talented parents(Lucy.) I agree with you SeeStarz(and this is really my point,) technology has it's place, but(back to Lucy,) NEVER IN MY HOUSE IN THE BEDROOM OR LIVING ROOM. If we do get one(or bring mine back from Paris, it will be in the study, like SS's computers and things...

Raging Chick, you guys are looking pretty gooooooood! Sorry I can't stick around this morning...Sea Horse will be sore after dancing her high heels and red dress away last night! Where is AMM? Wendy, Dominique had trouble with her iron levels a year or two ago. They never found out why and it's better now....

Just wanted to let you all know that I have tons of faults but have always liked associating with people(even women,) who, smarter than myself, more talented, more creative, just turned me into "sponge Mode", enabling me to learn a little from them...

    ...enjoy reading about your successes...

    ..rr

(Have you had any luck with the new male member from Florida yet, Sea Horse. Have you scared him away by pming him? Just put on that red dress and high heels and go, go, go... Cool Cool

    Re: Tools, Machines and Politics

Catching up with you all I see I have missed a lot of activity.

RC - I love the picture you posted - it is such good likenesses of us - you are looking better than ever and I did mention being out in my siren red dress the other day - how clever of you to catch us together!! Though of course I could also wear at another time, the wonderful black outfit SS has on. Let's get together and trade closets sometimes dear sister, you don't live too far away.

Um, Starz, would you be jealous? - DH just bought a new laptop this week - the house is already wireless so he is looking forward to getting it going....

Lucy - 72 inches!!! I am so impressed - I had no idea!! The last movie I went to was - over a year ago? My friend had a party with many unsuspected additions - one of which was a guy selling pirated DVDs to people at the party of current run movies - she was horrified and didn't know how to stop it. I laughed outrageously as she told me about it. I was invited to the party but had to miss it due to DD's Christmas band concert. Shucks - it was wilder than she had planned!! And I am very impressed at your father's ability, Lucy.

DH and I met downtown at a Greek restaurant for dinner last night and then went on to the concert - nice auditorium, decent music, aprreciative crowd...a nice evening out. It is a treat to finally not have to pre-arrange everything with sitters and all and just have some quality alone time.

Coming home from that delightful evening to find DD still working on homework was about the end of me. She was given the asssignment 4 weeks ago so of course was working on it for hours the night before it was due. She was putting college effort into an 8th grade assignment. The assignment was to draw and explain 3 tessalations - some of the other kids were just starting last night and wanting her to help them. She was up til midnight and had to be up at 6 - this does not portend well for the day, nor for tomorrow when she is testing for placement into the area's math and science center for high school - an accelerated program for sure!

Wendy - hope you are feeling "normal" (whatever that is for you) soon!!

    Re: Tools, Machines and Politics

I was afraid I would get cut off when I went to post...

Friend Joanne and I had great laughs together yesterday as we compared stories of our devil daughters. Her older daughter is my son's age - they graduated from high school together and are at the same university, perhaps even the same college, and know each other slightly. Her younger daughter is in 11th grade so a bit older than my devil daughter. As I was bemoaning DD's latest awfulnesses (of which there are multitudes) Joanne just started laughing and finishing all my sentences - her daughters are the exact same!! I am going to beat my head against a brick wall - I can't deal with this - thankfully DH approaches things much differently so he can sometimes get through to her when I can't. I think my friend Liz would consider taking DD for awhile - she loves this age and likes DD (unlike myself right now!!) - I think I will start packing her bags now!! Though we actually did get along well this morning...

rr - a thousand apologies - looking up Florida man was not top on my list - how could I have treated you so badly seeing as you are my favorite boytoy and all and you so obviously hate being here with all us lovely and intelligent women. I will try harder to PM him - within the next thousand years or so!! Smile (BTW, I am saving the siren red dress for a special occassion - I don't think PMing Florida man is the occassion I had in mind)

Since there is no one here to play with - I hear the yoga mat calling my name. Ladies (you too rr) - you must try yoga - it is so calming, relaxing and makes you feel so much better (stronger, flexible, smoother, energized) within just a day or two and the advantages continue to accumulate. I let it lapse entirely too long.

Good morning! Checking in here. Poor Wendy! At least you have a doctor that is watching over you. Getting your iron straightened out should make such a difference, you will probably be running all over the place when you feel better.
Devil Daughters, it's too early for me to expound on that. Other than the fact that, if I am Raging Chick, she is Raging Devil Daughter and it can be a frightening sight.
Well, I am off to batten down the hatches, major storm heading in today, a foot of snow and 50 mile an hour winds followed by temps below zero. Pray for me...
