Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
I've been trying to find some nice grass hay. It's been bleak, and folks around here aren't even able to harvest their alfalfa because of all the rain. I finally located some hay that the farmer will haul in, fingers crossed for this next weekend, but the rain could mess up that plan....

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
Love the new name of this thread! So glad to hear that I am not the only one who really got in to riding when they were close to or over 40. I moved around too much before now. Or when I wasn't moving had NO money.

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
Morning! Lucy, I let the 2nd grade teacher chew me out because she was right! She's a great teacher to. Yesterday, I found William downstairs with the cleaning woman, waiting for me. We went upstairs to his classroom just to see if his teacher was still there. After 6pm, and she was...That's dedication...
DD, you would be proud of me. I downloaded(onto the computer,) the photos from last winter! I sent them to SeaHorse to post(chimney, remember all,) but I think she's taken off for the weekend...rr

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
And I agree with you about riding after 40 AMM, but, after the set back, major accident I had, the idea of competing(at 54,) in show jumping(do not have the patience for dressage,) seems to be getting to be more a non reality...I'll be happy if I can do the winter, non official competitions... I AM STILL NOT COMPLETELY sure of myself(long way off,) even when jumping with Nash. I am very glad to be able to trail ride and screw around on weekends with Incarna though. It took more than a year to get my confidence back, just to do that... Garden Party with friends at a Chateau this afternoon...and drinking WATER!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, ten more days before our play starts.... rr

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
Lucy, I wish you luck with the hay acquisition. If Mother Nature co-operates this is some of what we have to bring in - looking north and looking south Forecast is now looking better for this coming week - I'm always on tenterhooks when it comes time to harvest I'd be an absolute basket case if I had to make a living at being a farmer rr, I so know what you mean about regaining confidence after an accident - took me almost a year & a half to get back on board - what a waste since it had been less than 3 years that I'd been back to the horsey way of life But, touch wood, all has been well since plopping my derrière back in the saddle in 1992

Oooh, what terrific hay! Christy would just love to help you harvest it! She is very dedicated, and a very hard worker! She would be willing to share with Sassy, so you could have it totally mowed in about a week! LOL!

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
Nice hay! Well, we had a good day, we have had a complete turnaround, in the past tests I thought had ridden quite well were trashed by the judges and the last two comps tests I thought were truly ugly have scored quite well, today being no exception, so we arrived in time to hear us being called for gear check, Heeellllooooo Ive only just driven in, they are running ahead of schedule, so I'm a little ruffled, anyway we make the first test, was a bit hurried but some nice work not yet 100% consistent but better, then we ride straight over to the next test, which was dreadful, he was uneven and we had a gigantic buck in the middle of the canter transition, so that one lost I just put it back together and rode it out, so then comes the presentation, Lo and behold I've come 6th with a score of 62% even the ugly test scored 58% so the good bits were very good and the rest was ordinary but obviously we are heading back in the right direction. So that was my weekend completely taken up by riding and competitions, and now all the ponies are tucked up in bed and we are, well when I say WE I mean DH is cooking dinner and we schall have a cosey night in front of the TV before work tomorrow. SO chat later hope you all had wonderful weekends and heres to the week ahead!

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
Hello everyone. CM... Lovely hay! Who would'a thought, a few years back, I'd be ewing and awing (sp?) over some nice looking hay?!
AM... Congrats on your showing at the tests!
Dressage... Isn't that the truth! I think, now that we're older, we appreciate having our horses now more than we would have when we were younger...
rr... Should we ever be totally sure of ourselves? IMO, we you get to that point, in your mind, you've stopped learning, and I believe the best never stop learning.

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
LOL... Bridget and Bela headin' that way!
Speaking of Miss Bridget... I actually went and rode her today. She is looking soooo good, and my friends have succeeded in calming her down substantially. In the indoor arena, they only lunge and walk her. If they want to lope her, etc., they take her to outside. They're wanting her to connect the arena with relaxation. I wish I could get buff-looking as fast as she has!

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
Morning all! Long wet weekend. It has been raining for the better part of the month of June. Congrats AMM, read about you competition scores...Soon as Mother SeaHorse disappears our thread falls off the first page! She must have gone to their lakehouse for the weekend...I pmed her some photos(since I still dont know how to post them,) from last Winter... Maybe she fell in the lake. I asked her for some fishing pictures. Maybe she was gobbled up by a huge Black Bass or Musky? Also, couldn't ride yesterday. They were holding some sort of road rally at the end of the road/driveway(almost) of our place. It's 1km. Well Incarna was as wild as he was afew years ago. I tried to saddle him up and he REFUSED TO STAND STILL. I just put him back and will try to ride this moring after William goes to school..A friend of mine who raises thoroughbreds said all their horses were crazy to, and they are 3 kms away from the road. The high pitched engines really wound up the horses... Have a nice day...rr

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
Just saw what's happening at South Lake Tahoe (California side). Wildfire...800 acres burning...160+ houses destroyed...only 5% contained. The TV report referenced the location west of Camp Richardson. I fell in love with that place! No rain in sight either. Remmer's well north of there but can no doubt see the smoke. No telling how much devastation the area will wind up with. Glad I got to see it in it's natural state. I can't imagine what those folks are experiencing. Very sad... ~FH

Re: The Life Begins At Forty Club!
My parent's cabin(now belonging to my brother,) is not too far from there, near Pioneer on the Kit Carson Pass. I heard that there was a drought in Southern California but I didn't know that it was also up in the Sierras...rr
