    Ham dinner

Gosh FH, you let Jewel have the most interesting friends over to play!  But a paint pig - who woulda thought???  Think you might have to desensitize her to solid color pigs now??

Some goofball teenage girls near the barn somehow managed to get their dog into one of the pastures - that was not a pretty picture.  The arab mare in there was flying, zooming  and snorting all over the pasture as the dog barked it's head off, the girls were screaming their dog was going to be killed while Surprise stood there and watched with interest and Blue decided he needed to spook over it.  When I got him in hand to go closer and investigate the girls took off leaving the dog behind and it finally followed them before I could go chase it off.

Be glad you have a pig FH - much more useful!  Happy holidays and good eating!!  Save a turkey - eat ham!

There's no way Jewel will let that pig stay in her paddock and make a "pigsty" of it, LOL!  Besides,  thought pigs were supposed to be pink????  Is this a baby pig, FH?  It looks awfully small.

Ginger and I have enjoyed a few good rides the past few days now that I have her back at the boarding arena.  She detests staying out in the rain and mud all day.  Just to prove it, she rolls until every hair in her mane and tail, her entire neck and even her eyes are caked with mud!  I should take a pic and post it just to embarass her.

I chatted with Countrymouse today!  She said to say "Hello" to everyone.  Her grandson is now almost 18 months old, and the cutest lil guy ever!  Her daughter has bonded with Talea, and is Talea's primary rider.  CM entered quite a few dressage comps last summer and had a great time with Bailey.  I told her we all miss her, but she said after the ES format changed, she often couldn't even get the site to load.  She became frustrated and just quit trying.

Here bucks, this is what the tail looks like when wrapped up.  I didn't french braid it this time.  Just a normal braid.  Then you take the end of the braid and loop it through the braid right below the tail bone.  You'll then have a loop of tail with then end sticking out and you just wrap it all up. But DON'T put the wrap on the tail bone.  Just the hair.

Big Smile [:D] Re: Lame, grrr....

Whew, crazy week here trying to catch up.  I had SOOO much fun last weekend!  The resort we stayed at was marvelous, ahhhh, I could live there.  And I got a lot of riding in everyday.  I think we made some progress but there is much more to do.  I will post some pics....
Meanwhile, I am heading down tomorrow to ride him again, this time DD is going with me.
And BIG NEWS!  Bunny is moving to Colorado.  A very experienced horsewoman and breeder is going to take her.  She has seen Bunny at her worst and thinks her problems are fixable.  She is going to work with her, do some ranch versitility work with her and later breed her.  I am trading her for the rights to a future foal. She will be on a 40 acre spread. I can't tell you how good I feel about this, this is one of the few people I know that I trust to handle and take care of Bunny.  She is going next weekend.  You know what this means...there will be another free stall in my barn, hmmmm.
I love your pig, FH!  And rr, what can I say....your story was a load of.....

Thank you so much, JG!  That should help me keep my girl's tail free of mud.  Never thought of using vet wrap until you mentioned it today.

That's great news for you AND Bunny, RC!  The resort in Scottsdale sounds luscious too!  My body is craving sunlight and warmth!

    Party Day

Well we had the usual suspects here for the combo Birthday Party for Dh and my dad. All went well and we all ate too much, Followed by a fun round of Uno Attack - my second favorite version. ( HA, I WON)! ;-)

It was so nice out I really wanted to go and leave the party to get to the barn but couldn't do that - bummer and now it's dark and cool again. Was prolly my last chance to get the tail washed with decent temps - bugger!

Nice butt shot JG! I love the look the horses face, How would you caption that one? lol

SH - dogs and horses in situations like that have caused many accidents - why did the ding dong girls have the dog off leash and why did the leave him there  - sheesh Maybe a super soaker squirt gun is in order, put some vinegar in it and get the bugger next time.

RC - Fantastic solution for Bunny! - seems the best thing that could happen for her!

    Re: Party Day

Quickie update: got over H1N1 (that was brutal, I spent three or four days on the couch just panting - unable to catch my breath at all, and needed a full week off from work).  Rode on Thurs and the pony was fantastic.  She seemed to be trying to take care of me in her own way, refusing to do the stuff I was still nervous about since coming off, but we worked through it and she was a champ.  Went back to work this weekend, and made it through a shift and a half before I started throwing up.  Sent home by management (again) and now I'm back on the couch.....  This had better end soon!

Poor Squeak!  I hope you feel better soon.

Here are the promised pics of me and "Cookie".  Oh, and the poor guy has embroidered blankets, halter, etc. with both his registered name and Cookie allover it....sigh.

    Re: Party Day

RC - What fantastic news about Bunny. You really have luck on your side finding new homes for your equine's. Both places sound like the perfect homes for them.

Squeak - Sorry to hear you are feeling so aweful. LOL At least you were throwing up at work and not home. Let the cleaning crew clean up that mess. YUCK. Ick!

Well my weekend ended up with me being covered in lumps, bump, bruised and scrapped. I rode both days. Sat was just a quick ride in the pasture working on leg yeilds, bending and such. Just a nice ride. Sunday was a longer ride that was going great. But I swear I am cursed after the 2 hour mark. I took Glis out and about, road riding for the most part as it's hunting season. Met some real nice polite kids who asked to pet Glis. They were out in their yard enjoying our balmy weather. I was chatting with them for a while when their Dad came out to check on them cause they were too quiet. LOL. I went on my way and wanted to stay out a bit longer so I took the longer route home. We came upon a house with a barn across the road that had 4 big steers in the pasture that have not been there before. At first I was a bit surprised to see them but didn't think too much of it. Glis is kinda nervous about cows. There was a cow on the farm where I got her from so I really didn't think it was gonna be a huge problem. But these steers were right next to the road and being curious they decided that they had to come meet Glis. She was standing there for a bit, on the opposite side of the road in the grass when she whirled around and wanted to bolt. I held her there. She was tense and trembling. I should have known better right there but I pressed her to go forward. Again spin and whirl. I tried to keep her on the grass cause she was backing up to the hedge row and we were running out of grass. I was going to go back where we came cause by this time, her brain was implodeing. She wanted to bolt for all her worth. By this time, she was in the road, I was holding her back from bolting but her feet had other plans. Imagine her a cartoon, where her feet are running 90 MPH and not going anywhere. This was us. Then she slips and falls in the road. My foot was under her. As I was trying to bail and get my feet out of the stirrups, she gets up, and knocks me down. I grab her reins but she is back up and takes my arm with her. I am now laying face down in the road, holding on for all my worth. Glis is now dragging me. I just have the end knot of the rein in my finger tips. I can't hold it and the rein slips from my grasp and there runs Glis down the road. I get up, lamely call to her to whoa, yeah right. She is now heading for home for all her worth. I get a ride from the home owner, I call my neighbor who is coming toward Glis now. Home is about 1 mile away. Glis passed by some farmers who were loading trucks with hay and they tried to catch her. At least she is now running through the fields and off the road. I managed to catch up to her when she was just about home. Her mouth was bleeding from stepping on the reins. She got a nice cool down bath, I hosed out her mouth and gave her some bute. She is fine now. I am soaking her grain for a few days. I ended up with a goose egg on my back side, a lump on my ankle, brush burn on my stomach and elbow, bruise on my rib and road rash on my hand.

So now I am second guessing everything I know and did. Am I asking too much from Glis? I sure was. Was I asking too much from myself? I'm thinking so. It troubles me cause it should have not gotten that bad and I pushed her when she was plainly telling me she was uncomfortable. So for a while I will sit here, feel sorry for myself for being so stupid, knowing I am a better horseman than that yet made so many mistakes. But I feel more sorry for Glis for letting her put her trust in me, and me letting her down.
