    Re: First ride on Reno

New horses, first rides by swollen rivers, April Fool's snow for some of you and no breakdowns for others of you - way to go gang!!   I will bow out for awhile as I have major depression returning from 10 absolutely wonderful days in Cozumel - the only down side of our visit.  That is where we should all get together instead of Chicago!!  Just sayin'.

Welcome home sh Wink - At least you missed any sn&$! and the thing to help your adjustment back to reality is come chat and tell us all about it! After you hug your pony of course. And it would be wonderful to change meeting place to sunny and trpical but I can get to chicago for $6.50 by train lol! There is water there and prolly plenty of sun by the end of June ( I hope) and we will have so much fun!

    Re: First ride on Reno

Great news FH. Glad to see Reno is feeling his oats. He will feel so much better after he gets those teeth taken care of. And look at our little Jewel. She's a real trooper. Very dainty looking up there on her pedestal. LOL.

SH, LOL, talk about rubbing in the great weather and sun shine to poor RC who suffered through snow. Sure wish we all could have been there with ya though. Maybe someday I will get out of the country and see the sights. In the mean time, I'll see it all through you.

I had a jammed packed weekend. DH decided to take down a tree in our front yard. It has been split in the middle for a while and we were afraid it would fall and hit the house. He and his buddy did a great job of getting it down and it never came close to hitting the house. Lots and lots of clean up though. I started painting the horse shoes I'm having for my wedding decorations. I have black, white, red, blue and green shoes painted. Got some of them decorated. They look pretty good if I do say so myself.

Sunday was more painting for me and lots of yard work. Perfect weather. I didn't ride because Glis has popped a splint last week and its almost healed up now so I didn't want to push it. So it was just lots of grooming instead. I was taking some horse cookies and was attempting to break them up with a sharp, pointy tool. I say attempting because I got in about 3 whacks with it without breaking the cookie when on the 4th whack, I totally pierced my thumb instead. Total, dumb move on my part and I had the "I totally know better" speach with myself on the way to the house to take care of it. It was a glancing blow thank goodness. Got the meaty side of my thumb and it actually almost went all the way through. Its a bit sore today and I have a bandage on it. You wouldn't believe how much you use your thumb, until you can't. LOL. Its all good. And after I got it bandaged up, I went out and groomed the horses 1 handed.

Edited to add my implement of distruction. Sharp, pointy object. Did I mention it was also rusty and bit dirty cause I used it for other things besides body piecings. Wink

    Re: First ride on Reno

Welcome back, sh!  Glad you had a great trip!  I will bow out on the reunion there though, went there a few years ago and wasn't a huge fan.  Lovely water though.

I now have a new technician, which will be good because she can carry stuff while my back heals (yay!) but bad because it will seriously put a cramp in my chat time (boo!).  But I will sneak around as best I can.

Note to self:  keep sprag away from all sharp objects.

    Re: First ride on Reno

Fun news today!  (Except Sp's self-mutilation).  Well, FH, looks like you got a great new project on your hands!  But of course you would expect that Reno would have some holes in his "training".  And you are just the man to fill in those holes.  Keep us posted on the progress!

SH, your pics are fabulous!  And now I am jealous of you, getting to have the warm sand between your toes, great food and beautiful views.  Sorry to hear you have to suffer through the readjustment, but we are here to help, you know.  We promise to make fun of you and make our snarky comments so that you will feel better in no time!

Solo, good news on the assistant.  Let's hope she will be cool with chat.  Bring her into the fold.  That way she will be guilty, too...

Tomorrow is Smokey's terminal date with Dr. Bob, which I have decided to keep as she's been certainly off her game lately, poor old thing.  I will miss her with all my heart.  Just wanted to share a tribute to her I posted at

The right thing to do is often the hardest thing to do. You know that and are doing the right thing. Smokey will appreciate you for having the guts to do the right thing.

    Good Bye Dear Smokey

My heart goes out to you Solo. Smokey is gonna love you even more for letting go. You gave Smokey the bestest dog days that both of you will remember forever. If this day wasn't hard for you, then you wouldn't know how much it means to love a dog. Your heart breaks because you gave Smokey so much love. The days will get easier and the memories that you have will last forever. Take heart in knowing Smokey is finally gonna catch those squirrels and after they are caught, won't know what to do with them.

So Left Hug HUGS to you, and smooches to Smokey.

    Major update on Jewel

I know this is Solo & Smokey's day. And deservedly so. But I just HAVE to share....

Jewel is now walking and standing NORMALLY! Only a slow walk while grazing but A NORMAL WALK! And she's standing square at the feed bucket with her "bad" leg fully underneath herself and the knee straight! She still hops and throws her head when she's in a hurry to raid Al or Reno's feed bucket. I had seen her straighten that leg on occasion before...briefly. But it's becoming a common occurrence now and I can't tell you all how pleased I am with Jewels tenacity. I'd post a pic but.... it would just be a horse standing there. No great shakes. But this is HUGE for her. There is still no shoulder muscle and may never be again. Only more time will tell. But her leg apparently doesn't hurt anymore if she doesn't stress it. Maybe seeing me ride Reno in HER saddle caused her to turn the corner. I don't know... But there's cause for guarded celebration at Casa FH.

As with all your other friends on ES Solo, my thoughts are also with you and Smokey today. ~FH
