Lol, SH.  I guess dh can come along.  Actually we eloped so my family got cheated out of the wedding.  I figure after all these years I owe them a party.

Oh, fingers crossed everyone, I think I have sold Cha Cha!  She is on trial with someone, there was evidence of an old suspensory injury during the vet check and they wanted to try some different shoes and make sure she is OK for their purposes.  I am pretty sure it will be all right.

Sending positive thoughts for Cha Cha - I hope that works out.  It's gotta be tough trying to sell a horse right now.

    Re: Not slacking

Hey All, seems like we've all been busy and not posting. Our weather has turned to crap around here this week so no riding for me. Its done nothing but rain here. But yesterday for a little something different, it snowed. Nothing that stuck anywhere I was, thankfully. But further south, in the higher elevations, it stuck and in some places had a few inches. Ick! First part of next week is suppose to get warm again. Well 50's, but still that is warmer than it has been here.

This weekend will be jammed pack with stuff to do. Going on a wine tour Saturday on Seneca Lake, then we're all getting together for a pot luck dinner back at "The Club" when we're done. Sunday is a birthday party for the Grandaughters. I will have to go shopping Sunday morning for them. LOL. I've been so busy that I haven't had time to go shopping. The oldest requested to go to the barn with me for her present. So at least that one is taken care of. The BO is gonna let me use the pony to give her a "horsey lesson". Yikes!!! just remembered its Halloween too, dang, I  need to go get candy for that too. I really could use another day in my weekend.

Crazy busy here -- worked most of last week up at the Training 3-Day Event in Maryland (pics on blog) and taking Encore to his first horse trial, where he was a Very Good Pony.  This week, been in meetings or in the field all week.  Here in the office for a few hours today then must go to PT and get the trailer ready for a horsey trip down to the sandhills this weekend!

Solo is about the same, not much improvement, sadly.  He is fat and has lost his muscle tone, which is just sad, I try not to think about it too much.  But he gets to hang out with his best friend and gets fed plenty of treats.  I want to try injecting his SI but I have to dig up about $400 for that and haul him down to Southern Pines, so looks like I'll be having a tack sale soon!

Snow, eh?  We finally got some much needed rain when a cold front came through here.  It was cold last night and Eric and I moved our traditional Friday evening on the patio with a bottle of wine inside and cranked the gas fire log, lol. Tomorrow is our 4th anniversary, so we're dining at Salt Grass Steak House, which is where we had our first "date".

Today it's been just perfect weather - blue skies, temps in the 70's. I didn't take my saddle to the barn this morning because I was just meeting the farrier over there, but I might take it over tomorrow and see if Annapolis is up to a stroll around the farm.

Nice weekend, all in all Smile

    Re: Shameless pic brag. LOL.

LOL, at first I thought they got married in a corn field!  Great pics Spragaruni!  Your son is so handsome, but looks waaaayyyy too young to be getting married.

JG, I think about you every day and hope this gets better quickly.  I won't say what I think about your husband.

Sheik is up for sale.  He's turned from a mischievious, destructive little stinker to a wonderful, calm young man.  He has about 25 rides on him now, and seems to love reining and looks great hunt seat.  DD used to say nothing but bad things about him, and now has raised his price and says she loves him.  But 6 horses with a 5 stall barn doesn't work well.  She also wants me to sell Buster.  She put him up for sale just to see what response she would get and had 6 calls in 30 minutes.  THAT will never happen, long as I can take care of him, LOL.

Solo, I apologize, but I missed what happened to your Solo.  I hope he will get better soon.

They FINALLY harvested our grapes.  With the late summer and cool weather in the fall, we had to cut back the fruit two additional times to prevent mildew, which reduced our crop significantly,  but they seem to be wonderful.  We are in such dire financial straights we didn't hold back any fruit for bottling.  Coming out with a new wine in this economy has proven disasterous.  Our wine is truly top notch, and two of the most expensive restaurants in Portland has it on their menu, but that's selling wholesale which means no profit.

If we didn't have bad luck, don't think we would have any luck.

I've been getting the property ready for sale.  We seem to have potential buyers from Chicago and Canada interested in purchasing it.  Hate to sell, but dont' see any way to keep it unless I learn to pull a rabbit from the hat.

Heaven would no heaven be, were a horse not waiting there for me.

LOVED the wedding pictures SP...looks lsike they enjoyed their day. Yes  Beer So the wedding was in a small church and the receptions was at ...a family farm?  You have some big country there, vistas of fields and hills in the background Big Smile...I could move.  Though I will say that with 3 monster trees cut down from our yard I can actually tell we have sky now.

  • So SORRY about your wine - makes me want to whine, Bucks.  What a pity - I know the summer was rough on agriculture.  Peanut butter is going up 40% because of the weather adversely affecting the harvest.  We found a little family winery in the UP this summer - WONDERFUL wine and I imagine yours would be just as good.  Expensive as all get out - but we still bought a good bit and would buy yours too!!  And I think about you on my runs to and from MSU as we go right by your town's highway exit.

  • Cool

And yes, DD LOVES MSU  Party!!! and is discovering just how small a huge university can be. (45,000 students, 5200 acres, 2100  acres developed) She came home for the weekend to ride the horse she leased over the summer as he is being moved, otherwise she stays on campus for the weekend and enjoys football games and activities including exercising the polo ponies. Last week she got to drive a draft team through the fields and enjoyed that of course.

We closed the cottage for the winter yesterday so I am about to fall into a funk Crying - and what is with the 60s for later this week?  I'll take it. Yes Had very few trick or treaters last night - didn't even use 2 bags of candy.  However to salvage closing the cottage, the neighbors put their fire bowl in the driveway to hand out candy and several of us enjoyed wine and conversation there. DrinksIdea

When I count my blessings, I count my horse twice!

I am just here to say... if you know that there is a surprise party being thrown for someone.  Taking them to see Paranormal Acitivities 3 to get them out of the house so that stuff can be set up.  The reaction when they step through the door and everyone yells "SURPRISE" is frickin funny.  BTW, it is possible to pull off a successful surprise party in 2 1/2 days.  lol

    Pasture repair pics

This past weekend we did a little project around the house. The area around the barn gets really muddy this time of year so every couple of years we have to dig out the mud and put down some crusher run. Scout apprecitates it the most because with his shivers, his legs get really aggrevated pulling himself out of the mud just walking around. So this is what we did.

This is the before shot. Muddy mess is actually fairly dry in this pic.

DH using the backhoe to clean things up.

And this is what we ended up with. So nice and dry. And the crusher run is excellent for their hooves.

We couldn't get the truck into the pasture so we had to have him leave the stone up by the house and DH had to bring in the stone bucket full by bucket full. Oh and why we didn't get all the crusher run laid down is because fixing one mess, created another mess. This is in the side pasture looking up toward the road.

And this is up at the road, looking down toward the pasture.

Looks like DH will be putting in that driveway he's always wanted here.
