How to tell when your horse is getting too fat

Hello all. Its been very quiet around here lately so I thought I'd share a couple of pics that I found interesting. Seems Glis's star on her face is changing. I started noticing it a while ago. I've never seen a face marking change on a horse before. I mean I've seen some that have gotten a few more hairs here and there but not as much as I've seen the change in Glis's. Or at least I haven't noticed it before. Even the snip on her nose is getting a bit wider and whiter.

This pic was taken in August.

This one was taken in November

This one was taken this past Friday

So the bottom line is....You know your horse is getting fat when even the white markings start gaining weight. Stick out tongue

    Polo Match

Big polo match tonight and I am ignoring the dire snow storm warnings of 6 to 10 inches of snow accumulation over the next 24 hours (you suck FH) and going to watch.  My daughter is on the JV team so she won't be playing but it is the only home match so I'm going to support the team.  The girls are so excited about this match - especially since it is against an arch rival.  For fun, I am posting the advertising poem one of them wrote.  Now, for those of you in the know "Go Green!" and "Spartan Will"

twas the night before MSU Polo at the Pavilion and gathered at the rock
was the MSU Polo Team with paintbrushes and smocks
their awesome team logo was painted with care
with hopes that all of campus would decide to go there!
the horses are nestled all snug in their stalls
with a big spartan helmet shaved onto them all
so wear a green kerchief, or maybe a cap
    and cancel your post-burgerama nap
'cause tomorrow at 6:30 it's about to go down
and if you aren't there, I will most likely frown
so everyone get ready for a game full of thrills
because against U of M, spartan polo always WILL

    its a new year!

I think it has been rather a long time since I have posted - 2011 has been a very tiring and exhausting year! so heres a bit of a run down on the year that was

Jan - Qld was hit by massive flooding - my job was displaced and everything was dirupted -

Feb - Qld was hit by a cat 5 cyclone that wiped out most of the eastern seaboard - but opened up a new job opportunity for me

March - settled in to new job - competing little and riding even less but horses all good

April - job is really exhausting and busy lots of overtime - horses are good and enjoying a holiday

May - much of the same

June - Winter has set in - thankfully still nice weather wise

July - the year is going exhaustingly quick

Aug - still rolling along - playing catchup wih everything houshold - seems like a never ending job

Sept - offered permanent job - good salary - finally things are looking up - going to organise young horse to be broken in - riding time has increased and enthusiasm has returned

Oct - firmly entrenched in new team at work - things are improving  - young horse goes off to trainer to be broken in

Nov - Young horse returns home - now trying to fit in working 2 horses and work - bit of a strain but doable

Dec - someone breaks into our house just to finnish off a dismal year ! but horses are looking good and going well we are all geared up for a new season - job is good and I finally start to see a light at the end of the tunnel!Smile

so here we are - I often pop into chat but no one is ever there Crying so I cant catch up with anyone - but this thread keeps me up to date a little - so to all my friends here - happy new year hope 2012 is a better one for all - stay safe chat soon - ciou Ange

    Re: its a new year!

Wow - what a year!  I remember reading about the flooding you had in Queensland last year, glad you made it through ok.

Sorry to hear about the break in -- did they catch the person?

Your job sounds exciting, but juggling work and horses can get a bit much can't it?

I hope 2012 is a good one for you -- come back and see us again soon.

Hmmm -- she's getting a whole new little snip under the current one. If she was in the movies, we'd all be critisizing the equine make up artist, lol.

    Al's 60 day training update

The boy is doing a lot better. Stands for mounting without hobbles, still trying to figure out the snaffle, hardly any tail wringing, still needs to work over his haunches. We were about to go for an open pasture ride with a companion horse when the skies opened up and poured rain for the rest of the afternoon. Rescheduling his first open country ride for early next week.

Re: Al's 60 day training update

Hes sounds like hes doing well FH

Today is a bit of a sad day - Charlotte my oldie has let me know its time for her to cross the rainbow bridge - I always said when she would no longer eat I would know - this morning I found her lying down in the paddock - my heart nearly stopped - I went down to her but she got up and walked up to where she normally has breakfast - when I looked out again she was down - I put the others out and again she got up and came up to the top paddock to be under the trees - she went down again but this time she just sat - I couldnt cope with this on my own I know what comes next I will have to call the vet this afternoon and have her PTS - DH said celebrate her life she has lived in luxury these past 6 years and now she is going to a better place! I left her to enjoy the shade of her favourite trees and will find a way to work through the day - we will miss you Charlotte

    Re: Charlotte

Oh, I'm so sorry. You made her life's end as easy as it could be, and that's the best thing you could have done. It was a sad day for you but a good day for her: you listened to her last message.

Re: Al's 60 day training update

FH - congrats on how well Al is coming along!!! YesBig Smile Looks like you're gonna have yourself a nice riding partner. HAHA I love how he tells you how smart he is. Duh like we all didn't know that. LOL. I see when Clint is asking things a bit too fast for him, he gets confused and resistant but he's coming along. Can't wait to hear about the ride with a campanion.

Oh Amm - so very sorry for your loss. Wilted Flower You did her well. Keep all those good day memories close to your heart.
