    Saddle Woes - County Saddles?

Ok, I recently sold my Prestige Hunter classic which I dearly loved!!  I had to sell because I have a new herd I'm riding and I they need more of a M/W maybe wide.  Well, my saddle fitter strongly suggested the County Stabilizer, then I did a lot of research on them.  So, I found one and took it on trial.  While my horses may like it, it's not like my Prestige full calf leather with front and back blocks!

Can anyone tell me about the saddle they love and couldn't do without, and why?  I ride hunter/jumper, flat work and low jumps.  I will only get one that is wool flocked.

    Help!

County's are REALLY nice saddles.  Remember, if the saddle is new, you're going to have some break in time.

No, it's not new.   It's very broken in.

County saddles are really nice, but like any other saddle, do not work for everyone. Although it's great that it works for your horses, I wouldn't settle for something that I wasn't happy with as it could adversely affect your position and effectiveness in the saddle.
Maybe try looking at County's other models or try other saddles of similar construction in a different brand that fit you better/ have the features you want.

Saddle shopping, to put it bluntly, sucks.  I just went through the frustration of it--trying to find a saddle that fit both Traveller and I was a challenge. I ended up getting the Kentaur Naxos-- not a well known brand here, but reasonably popular in Europe. I got the full calf model with flocked panels, and it came with small front and back blocks. So far I am happy with it, he is moving well and I am comfortable.

I'm in the middle of the process right now.  Yes, it does suck!  It looks like I'll likely be buying a Santa Cruz Justin sometime this summer.  They're wool flocked, nice grippy calf leather... can't think what the block/roll arrangement is right now (sorry, writing finals so my brain is gone).  The only thing I would change is to make the flap a bit more forward cut, but it's not to the point where it's a huge deal.  It fits me quite well (the flap is the only real issue), and it fits my wide, flat, round mare with no wither very well, so I'm happy to deal with the flap thing and have her more comfortable.  We're not jumping huge, so it probably won't be a problem anyways (and I've got mutant long thighs so it may not be an issue for you).

A couple of summers ago I had the opportunity to ride in a friends Devoucoux and it was awesome.  They are wool flocked, calf leather.  Unfortunately I can't even afford a used one.  I think she might have a monoflap for sale for $2500.

I've got a Schleese TD that's very comfortable.  Plus it can be fitted to any horse.  We have a rep that comes to our barn, measures, watches us ride and makes any adjustments on site.  And they have a warranty (even if used) if bought from Schleese (or an authorized dealer). So we also get great service with a great product.  Unfortunately, they are expensive.  I had to buy mine used and I haven't been able to find a jump saddle in my price range.  I'm kinda paranoid about my horse's health and comfort (drives my trainer insane), so I would never get one that could not be specifically fitted to my horse.

Re: Saddle Woes - County Saddles?

Well, I finally gave up on finding a County (Stabilizer).  It was taking entirely too long and couldn't find a decent one in my price range in my size and tree width needed.  I loved how my Prestige saddle rode, but I've accepted the fact that I'm not going to have a Prestige saddle this time.  I've taken numerous saddles on trial, only to be disappointed in the ride and/or the fit on the horses.  So I finally gave up and went to a tack shop about an hour away and sat in about every saddle there and looked for the flattest underside (my horses backs aren't curvy).  Surprisingly, my choice was the new HDR Devrel Luxembourg.  I would never have even dreamed of trying one of those, but I was determined to take all the time in the world and try every single saddle in their shop.  I'm not sure how that beautiful covered leather will hold up, so I'll have to be extra careful with it.  I take very good care of my saddles anyway.   That's the end result of this continuing saga.  Let's hope it goes well!

I just love my Keiffer Kur.  The seat is soft and as I have a back issue I can ride without any pain.  I rode in my friend's County and found it very hard and suffered afterwards.  The Keiffer can be adjusted to fit the horse.  Yes, new they are expensive but there must be some good second hand available.  Saddles are a very personal choice and it best to try many different models if you are able.
