this is what happens - new pics 6-8-11

My fencer is on the fritz (but now have a new one) and my dingy horses got loose Saturday and decided to go running around town.  This is the results of when they do stupid things like that.  I'm gonna post pics here to keep track of her healing.

*note, she'd due for a trim, darn trimmer needs to get on the ball, lol*
*another note, vet is involved and we have a treatment plan going*

    front legs

this one is my major concern, it's deep and right on the joint.

The rest are all road rash type injuries.

left rear - pastern is a touch swollen

    Left stifle

    right pastern

    right stifle

Poor girl got 4 shots last night.  One was an antibiotic (ABX) that will last for 5 days, another ABX that she will get daily (poor girl, had to stick her twice for that one as I didn't have a syringe big enough to do it all at once, and a tetnus booster. Vet is also coming out and going to shoot a couple xrays of her knee to be sure there is nothing cracked in there.

Poor girl is on stall rest now cause with all the bloody rain we've gotten this month the horses pen is a muddy mess.  No way to keep all those wounds clean if I turn her out.

    LeSigh.. gotta love horses...

Heck jg!  After all that tromping on the pavement, she shouldn't need a trim now for a few weeks...  Can't remember what day this was for you, but my chitlins always pick Saturday night/Sunday morning  ****EARLY!  The earlier the better to get mom up....****

Not that they get out much anymore, but I can almost guarantee it will always be sunday morning about 5am that I get to go chase em down.....  I think they have calendars hidden in their manes for reference...  lol...

Hope she heals quick!  They look awful.

Well it was Saturday afternoon.  But I was away running a horse show.  I knew they had gotten out but didn't know anybody had got hurt till I got home at 1 am.  Then as I was doctoring her up I realized how sadly lacking my vet kit had gotten.  Between the vet and a couple stores I'm going to be restocked in a few days.

Re: this is what happens when your horse decides to run the town

Vet came out to do x-rays and decided against it.  He wants her on complete lock down for at least 4 weeks.  There is a "pocket" between the skin and the bone at the bottom of the "V" where her cut is.  He had his finger in there 1/2".  He wants her to not have much movement at all so that the "pocket" gets stuck back to the tissue.  As long as we keep any infection out of there we will be good.  Hopefully she will be rideable by fair time in 6 weeks.

Oh, after doing all sorts of things to Brat's knee, manipulating and such. He said he didn't feel x-rays were needed cause if the the bone was cracked he would perscribe stall rest anyway.  She was only slightly off at the trot for him so he didn't think a bone chip was possible.  He did say that if the swelling in her leg was still there in a few weeks we would x-ray then.  BUT, I cold hosed her leg Sunday and Monday and from Monday to Tuesday the swelling had gone down by half.

So now she and Journey get some apart time cause I"m not locking him in with her.  Yesterday she stood in front of her fan.  Tonight she gets a window in her stall.  It's something I've been wanting to do for better air flow in the barn.  So tonight it's gonna get done lol.

Wow, jg, I hope she gets healed up without infection.  What a very unpleasant surprise.

What the heck did she do?  Looks like she took a slider on her knees and fetlocks. I hope she heals quickly.

That is exactly correct Jayne.  I hope she does too.  We are 6 weeks from fair.  The kid is bummed that she might not get to go.  But, she does get some time out of solitary every day so he can work with her on showmanship.  He should be able to nail that this year.

When the vet was out Tuesday he said that it looked like it was at day 6 or 7 of healing and it was only day 3.  He said that I"m doing beautifully with it.

Wow JG. Thats a nasty little gash she has. You're doing a great job getting it all healed up though. Fingers crossed no infection gets in there or proud flesh for that matter.
