i think my mare is pregnant.... need quick help

i think my mare is pregnant. The old owners said she had broken out of her pin last september and when they found her she was backed up to a clydesdale stallion. I know i shouldve gotten her checked but they assured me she wasnt pregnant. I noticed a week ago she had this huge vein running down her stomach so i did some researching and found that it is a milk vein, can horses that arent pregnant get these? Then i noticed her belly is a little on the big side. Then this morning while i was feeding i touched her flanks be cause they looked oddly larger than normal. Usually they are a little sunk in. And thats when i felt something moving and you can see stuff poking out of her sides! Ive called the vet but he wont be in til next friday. Im worried about her she has started sweating even when its not hot especially near her teats neck chest and flanks. Is this normal?

Do you know if she has ever had a foal before?  Maidens may show a little differently than a mare who has foaled before.  If she was bred in September, she should be showing signs that she will be foaling soon.  Is she showing signs of bagging up?  That is her udder getting bigger?  With a maiden, she may bag up then have it go down.  If it is, it's a pretty good bet that she is pregnant.  A mare may start bagging up a few weeks before foaling or a few hours before foaling.

If she is bagged up, has wax on the ends of her nipples, the muscles around her tail head are soft and loose and if she is showing colic like signs, stomping her feet, looking at her sides and rolling, expect a foal very soon.  Until you can get the vet out, make sure the area she is on is clean, a large clean stall or a grassy pasture, in the event she foals before the vet comes.  Make sure the stall or pasture is secure so the foal can't get out. The vet will be able to tell you for sure if she is in foal or not.

    Good luck.

She hasnt started bagging yet they said that she has had one other foal, it died shortly after because it got struck by lightening): i dont know if that would be any reason for her to foal differently or not.

You need to call your vet and have her checked -- if she IS preggers, you need to know so that you can be feeding her correctly.

okay, well lets see- I also have a mare that looks like that of what you described. Do you know her foaling history? How old is she? have you weighed her recently? How much grain are you feeding her? I feed my mare 12 qts a day and it goes right to her flanks. She might be bothered by flie and gnats down underneath where there is skin, so it might be swollen because of that. i do believe the vien is no big deal although you still might want to check. Now- have you ever attended a foaling or foaled a horse yourself? do you have any friends that might know alot about this stuff? also- usually mare need to be covered once or twice by a stallion to be pregnant. Has she been acting weird lately? If you need anymore info just tell me I have family members that have done it all. ;)
