Pickens' Mustang Monument
Great article on what Madeline Pickens is trying to do for the mustangs. I hope she DOES encourage others to follow suit. This whole article makes me want to stop eating beef...

I stopped eating beef and other animals 25 years ago, and haven't looked back. You might like it.

If only beef didn't taste like tasty burgers....sigh. Ummm, 48, vegetables kill animals too -- land cleared and cropped kills massive numbers of wildlife every year. So it's impossible to go through life without killing animals, sadly.

Um, talk about a slippery slope there Solo. You can't be perfect, 100% all good, but that should never stop anyone from trying. The farming of animals compared to the animal loss in plant crops? Really? Right. I also can not figure out for the life of me what makes the life of a horse worth so much more than a cow, or a deer, or a pig. Animal abuse/neglect/misunderstanding, regardless of the species, should be stopped, and the people held accountable. And *shakes head* Ugh, soap box over.
Being a vegan/vegetarian is a very easy thing to do, and has so very many health and ethical benefits. Even adding one animal-free meal to your diet a week is a good idea. Try it, you would probably like it!!

I know your life had many bad times in it, and I sincerely hope I made your last few years here on Earth happy and comfortable, with as much love and yummies as your huge heart desired. I love you bud, have fun running in the pastures of heaven. Until we meet again...

Re: Pickens' Mustang Monument
Ok, so, sorry for the beef comment, lol. This wasn't actually supposed to be a "pros and cons of going off beef" thread, more like a "what about this article on Madeline Pickens and the mustangs?" thread.... I'm just saying, those cattle ranchers ARE the villains of like EVERY western ever made for a reason.. :p

Re: Pickens' Mustang Monument
I have to admit, I had to read the article. But it's statements like this....
"Back in the sagebrush, Pickens grabs an armful of fresh-cut hay and walks boldly toward a wild stallion, black with a splash of white between its wary eyes. The stallion was gelded a few days before and is understandably skittish, retreating from her fearless advance."
... that make me worry. Not a bright thing to do. Most of the article was poetically written (as the above statement shows), but a little misleading at times.
And when they manage to double the population in five years, where will these horses go for food? As was stated, her ranch will only support so many. What will happen then? Will she be feeding them armfuls of hay from her truck?

Re: Pickens' Mustang Monument
well now we know who to blame for getting slaughter banned in the US. My friends here and I have always disagreed on the stance of slaughter. I am 100% FOR humane slaughter.
This woman, if she wants to "buy" wild horses. Which are just ferel horses not true Mustangs as the only way to get true mustangs are from the BLM. She can go for it. Keep them on her own property and not try and get the government, which is already strapped when it comes to trying to help the mustangs.
I can see why people are up in arms if this person of what appears to be unlimited wealth. Wants the government to "help after she's gone". Bull spit, she needs to set up a trust fund and a board of people to run that trust fund after she's gone.
Love the picture of the vegetarian wearing leather boots and a leather vest.

ROFL, see what you did, FCP!! Yeah, I like what she is doing, I really do, but they are VERY big into melodrama -- if they would cut it out with all the melodramatic, anthropomorphic language and just be professional about the whole thing, it would be great. Really, flowing manes and nuzzling and armfuls of hay are for 12 year olds, not for large scale animal management.
