I finally took the "Plung" into horse ownership!

    Hi Everyone,

I just wanted you all to know that I am officially a horse owner. Big Smile It only took 40 years, but I made it.  I purchased a 5 yr old registered paint gelding named Bugz!  He is truly a sweet boy and I look forward to many years with him.  We will be doing a little of lower level hunters and possibly some western pleasure (if i can find a nice western outfit). I'll try to attached a picture of him for everyone to see!

Thank you both!  I just figured out how to change my avator picture, that's him, now i'm trying to figure out how to put them in the message.  When I click the insert image button, it asks for an image url.  i have no idea what that is. Confused

In order to be displayed in the forums, photos need to be online somewhere.   A lot of people use Photobucket, but you can also use our galleries here.  Then just copy and paste the url, which appears in the top bar of your browser, in to the little box that appears when you click the insert image button.  It works best if the photos are no wider than 550 pixels, otherwise it gets cut off.

Re: I finally took the "Plung" into horse ownership!

Yeah, that was my first thought too! lol  I told a friend i hope that's not going to be sign!  Ick! Black and Blue + Green (more of a timid rider) = Purple bruises! No, my instructor had specific requirements on what kind of horse to look for and says he's just like her mare i was leasing, just younger.

So when the vet came out to do the pre-purchase exam she was like he's a nice boy, so i would only recommend him if you want to go slow and slower!  Those are his speeds. I immediately said, YEP, that's why I want him.  lol

Two of my friends at the barn just got CANTER OTTB and one was a stallion until a month ago and is the sweetest guy ever and trys real hard to please his new mom (bold rider) and the other (timid rider) has turned into a problem child..running ppl over to get out of the pasture, Devil however, when his mommy comes to get him, he's the perfect little angel! Angel..too funny. So I said when I found my guy, i just want a guy who says okay, you want me to do this, okay you want me to do that!  He's being trained by my instructor and one of her best riders (she jumps 5') to learn to carry himself but other than that he's the best guy ever for me.

Bugz was bit by his pasture mate on Sunday afternoon. Tongue Tied

Poor Bugz! Crying  All medicated, cleaned and vet wrapped to protect it.

I'll update with pictures as he heals!

On to better news, the farrier came out Saturday to do his shoes and said that Bugz has the best hoofs at the barn. Wink I told him I planned on keeping it that way!  We are on a 7-8 week schedule and I'm looking for a good supplement to add to his feed to continue to keep them healthy.  Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Big Smile

As it turns out, I had it backwards.  The stallion (AP) is a beast Devil, see my post on Bugz's wound, and the other horse is a sweetheart.  He just wanted a job. So he is in full work and is now back to his old self, a sweetie pie. Love you Rusty! Wink  He's such a good boy.

AP is still a sweetie too, it's just that he needs his own space so he won't hurt another horse. He might get along better with mares!

Congrats on the new horse. And bummer about the nasty bite. Lets hope they figure out a better pasture routine for your fella, he looks like a real nice guy. When I got my mare, my big gelding took a nice chunk out of her hind quarters that required alot of stitches. They are now best buds.

Looking forward to hear about all your adventures with your new guy. Big Smile
