    Rubber mats

I recently moved my box stall and panels to our new house.  I have gravel under the box stall and road base in the corral.  I want to put my 4'X6' rubber mats back in the box stall but the are larger than the area they cover.  Last time I just rolled them up on the wall, but they moved and that was not good.  How do you trim these mats?  They are really thick, maybe an inch or so.

    Thanking you in advance,

    Bev Lowe

Ditto. I've never done it, but I'm sure any kind of power saw would work.

A jig saw or a circular saw???  Guess I don't know that term...

A jig saw is usually mounted on a stand and you thread the material through the saw blade, which is stationary. Rubber mats are too heavy for that.

A circular saw is a round saw blade that rotates as you cut through the material, and you guide the saw blade as it moves. That's what you'd want to use. Do not use it yourself if you've never learned how, ask a friend who knows how to hold power tools.

No, there are plenty of handheld jig saws you can use, if you have one.

OP, I'd just use whatever power saw you have handy, it doesn't matter, they'll all slice the mat for you.  I actually just cut mine with a sharp exacto knife, just scored it deep several times, then hit it with a rubber mallet and it broke off nicely.  But a skilsaw (circular) would work well too, you'll just have to get it up off the ground onto some sawhorses or something.

My partner told me that what I thought was a stand-mounted jig saw is actually a scroll saw. He also said some people call hand-held jig saws "saber saws". That's why HE does the barn repairs and I handle the horses. :)

with my rubber mats i used carpet knives to cut them.  they needed a couple extra runs on the cut, but, they are certainly low key and safe for most people.
