    New Horse Biography

In last night's paper there was a review for a new horse biography.  It is titled The Eighty-Dollar Champion by Elizabeth Letts.  It's about the champion jumper of the 1950's Snowman.  It sounds good, I'm going to be looking for it.  The cover looks great, Snowman free jumping towards the camera.

Another good horse biography came out this year, Affirmed: The Last Triple Crown Winner by Lou Sahadi.  Also alot of information about Alydar and their rivalry.

If you like harness horses, there's Crazy Good by Charles Leerhsen, about pacer  Dan Patch, who raced and set speed records in the first years of the 20th century.

The $80 Champion sounds like a great book.  Thanks for the heads up.

Snowman is next on my reading list!  I read the story of Secretariat and his groom earlier this year -- "The Horse That God Made."  I also loved "Beautiful Jim Key," which was an amazing story of a whole lot of "firsts" in US history that I never knew.

I read the story of snowman recently in a book my sister purchased. I thought it was very good, and really enjoyed it. I'll see if our library has the full story! Thanks for sharing that!

    Re: New Horse Biography

I just saw a promo for a new movie coming out in Jan. War Horse. About you guessed it, a horse that was used in the war. The promo was intense and I'll be hoping to see it when it comes out. See, this way DH gets to watch a war movie and I get to watch a movie about a horse, all at the same time. Wink It's so funny because after checking out all these recommended books here, I was looking at the book War Horse and was thinking that would be a book to put on my wish list too.

    Re: New Horse Biography

There's a play out called War Horse, that used life size puppets for the horses.  If you do a search, you should be able to find links to videos.  The puppets were really cool.  Very strange looking, but the operaters did a fantastic job of bring the horses to life.

Yeah, the War Horse book and the stage play are the same story. There was a post here about the play awhile ago, talking about a TV show that detailed how they made and worked the huge puppets in the play. Very cool. I might get the book.

My mom got me the Jim Key book but it was a bit dry for me.
