    White horse show disaster!

I have so much trouble trying to get ready for shows! All of the shanpoos and conditioners that i've used have not worked to get all of the grass stains and dirt out of my white horse. I've tried Cowboy's Magic and Mane and Tail. Any other tricks or products that have worked for you please reply to my post and tell me!

               I'm free to any suggestions.

I don't have a grey now, so I don't know if this product is still on the market, but there used to be a product called Quic Silver.  It was used for spot cleaning, you applied it full strength to the stained area, let it sit for a minute or two and then rinsed it out thoroughly.

I just Googled to see if it was still around and it is -- here's the website:

I hope it works for you.

HORSE JOURNAL's "Best for Whites and Greys" is Lucky Braids Whitener and Dry Wash Shampoo. It's here: http://www.SmartPakEquine.com/lucky-braids-whitener-and-dry-wash-spray-9427p.aspx?cm_vc=Search I have two greys--one whiter than the other--and when I tried it on Juno, the whiter mare, it worked VERY well. It's not cheap, but it's worth the price. Not only can it be used right before a show, it can be put on every couple of weeks and LEFT ON for continuous protection. I've only used it on Juno a few times but her tail is looking the best ever. Her tail no longer shows much in the way of urine stains--the hardest to remove--and her tail is dressage-length--long--so the urine would show if not for the Lucky Braids.

Other whiteners in my arsenal--a bit less pricey--are WOW!,  and Jayne's pick, Quic Silver. I have others, but haven't used them so I can't say if they work any better.

But if you can afford the Lucky Braids whitener, buy it! You won't need to buy as much of it than the other whiteners, so in the long run it's cheaper. A bottle of it is around $32 at SmartPak.

I've used Dawn for white markings with great success, and last year when I had to clean a Holstein cow and show her I used something called Orvus paste, it worked wonders and you get it in a huge tub.  What I did was wet the cow down, grab a handful and then scrub, it lasted about a 1/4 of the cow, did 1/2 the cow and then rinsed.  Her white spots were vibrant, and manure stains disappeared, plus it doesn't stain the hair if you accidentally leave it in too long.

I have shown a white horse for about 4 years, I have plenty of experience with shampoos.
I used Quic Silver, for grey and white horses and it works very well. Only leave it on for a couple of minutes or else it might stain your horse. < That has never happened to me though!
There is also a new brand called "Gallop" it comes in different formulas for different horses, and I heard it works very well. I used Cowboy Magic and it worked really well for me, I don't know why it didn't work too well for you.
If you are really desperate to make your horse white, there is a product that comes in a spray can, that is specially made to spray out certain colors, they come in colors like chestnut, black, and white. So the white would definitely work on your horse. I also read in an article in a horse magazine, I think it was Equus or Practical Horseman, it was Gem Twist (or a horse just like him) that talked about how they got their pure white horse perfectly white for all their big horse shows. If you could locate that article, that might be the best answer! Good luck! Luckily I don't ride a white horse competitively right now, and even if I did my horse trainers prepare my horses for shows before hand. :)
