    My War Horse

Eric and I just got back from watching War Horse.  All the way through I couldn't get over how much Joey resembled my old boy, Annapolis.  Hope you don't mind if I share a side by side photo of them. (Of course, Annapolis has a lot of grey around his star now)

Wow! They do look a lot alike! How was the movie? I'm dying to see it (nevermind it just came into theatre yesterday)!

I read the book, and a local theatre will be showing it soon. I expect to cry. And yes, Joey does look like Annapolis.

What's the boy doing riding Joey without the snaffle rein, just the curb rein on the pelham?

They really do look alike! Though seeing the movie horse's face up close - lol the star is so perfect with such clear edges it's easy to see that they painted it on his face for the film. I know that multiple equine actors usually share a role - one horse does a the close ups, one or more horses do certain tricks (rearing, nudging the human actor, laying down, etc), and usually one horse for running/far away shots - so they end up painting the horses to make the markings match.

Your old guy is adorable, though.

I saw this movie on Wednesday and enjoyed it very much.  Joey really was a special sort of horse, especially when he got tangled in all of that barbed wire.  I thought he would have been cut up more than what he was.  I felt sorry for those poor German boys and I wish the French Girl would have survived the war too.

That one scene you mentioned is the one scene I couldn't watch.  I thought he would go crazy (like Annapolis would do) and tear himself up so I buried my face in Eric's shoulder!

I love the area of England that the early part of the movie was filmed in.  Eric and I are planning a trip to England (where I'm from) in May, so we'll be adding that to our "must visit" list.

tmi, spottedpony Wink i don't know anything about the film except what the trailers show.  i don't want to know who survives and who doesn't......

too bad annapolis wasn't younger, he could've been a star!  one of my dogs was an extra in a movie once.  she made $35 for the day.  and she spent the day with her human daddy who was also an extra, so, she was one happy dog.

Oh wow, Jayne, that's really neat!  You should paint white socks on his back feet and then charge people to see "Joey"!

    OMG! They're almost twins!

I read somewhere that Joey was played by 14 different horses. The equine makeup artist must have been pretty busy!

Loved the movie. I remembered to wear waterproof mascare. Good thing, too. The barbed wire scene made me ball.

i thought it would make me cry.  we were all prepared for it.  but, it didn't.  the barbed wire scene brought my heart into my throat a bit.  but, overall, the movie was a bit more disneyish than i expected.  and i thought there would be a sad ending and there wasn't.

all in all, we enjoyed it though.
