    Best Gloves for Hunters/Equitation?

I am in need of new gloves, mine are small and I am looking for a quality pair that will last for the time they will fit me.

I have always used Heritage brand. I tried the SSG brand but I wasn't too fond of them.

I compete and take lessons and was trying to look into a nice pair that I could use for both, since my gloves never get real dirty, I only use them for lessons.

I guess you could say I am picky about my gloves, haha it took me a while to find my pair I really liked.

I heard of some good brands like Roeckl, Ariat, Heritage, etc. but I was wondering your opinion on some experiences you had with your gloves, or your favorite brand/style.

I need them to be black (so I can use them to compete).

Thanks in advance for any comments!

I have been using Equiport gloves for just over a year now. In the uk they are around £27. I have found them to be excellent for at home and for competitions. They come in a range of colours to suit the type of competition and they fit very well. They are well made and of exceptional quality.

    • They have never caused my hands to blister or rub.
    • They do not make your hands sweat in the summer.
    • I find that even in the winter they are not too bad at keeping your hands warm (however I wear thermal gloves to hack out in).
    • I have a pair that I keep for schooling at home- these have gradually worn, but are still usable.
    • I would say a pair can last about a year (I ride 5/6 times a week for about an hour a time). They are very durable.
    • Easy to wash and quick to dry.
    • I use them for dressage, showjumping and cross-country competitions.
    • I have a white pair, beige pair, black pair and blue pair.
    • Roeckl make a specific cross country glove- I am going to try these out next!

     Hope that helps.

Just wondering which SSG gloves you tried. I've had some pairs that wear out in a month or 2, and others that last for years (and are very comfortable). The 100% cotton ("gripper") gloves are nice in the heat, but (at least w/ my sweaty hands) fall apart in a season or less. But since they only cost $5-6 it's probably to be expected, and it doesn't bother me too much to replace them. The crochet back/pigskin palm gloves are really nice, but can't be thrown in the washer like all my other gloves, lol. Most of my SSG gloves have been the "All Weather" gloves in various patterns/colors. They usually last me a few years before my fingernails poke holes in them. I have 2 pairs of white (for dressage shows) - one cotton SSG and one All Weather SSG.

I've only tried one pair of Heritage (Heritage Performace Gloves - I got the purple ones, lol), and found the moisture wicking very good in summer here in TX. But when it's cold out, they seem to make my hands colder.

I used a cheap pair like $5 or $10 and they stretched out. I washed them and they were baggy after. I just kept them as a spare pair but I use my Heritage gloves right now. Since I used the SSG when I was starting riding (7 years ago) well obviously I got a couple new pairs since then lol! But they didn't wear out too bad because I only rode 1 time a week for an hour. But I wasn't jumping and things like that with them. But I got another pair of the same ones last year probably and that's the pair that stretched out. They are just sitting in my garment bag now.

With the Heritage, that happened to me too! I'm using them now, (In PA) and it's pretty cold and they are really cold when I put them on.

I will have to try them on at the tack store! You sound like you really like them! ;)

    Just to keep everyone updated:

I went with my parents to the tack store to show them what I wanted for my birthday. I tried on a lot of gloves but I found ones I really like. :) They are the Ariat Tek Grip glove in black. Here is a link if you want to see them.

I thought they would have a really nice grip to them, and look excellent for shows and schooling. They also feel thin and breathable enough to wear in summer but also feel warm enough for winter. I thought their nice stretchy material was nice and velcro was strong.

I hope I get them for my birthday, because right after my birthday is my riding lesson, so I would be able to use them! :)

I tried looking for the Equiport brand but I couldn't find it. I looked at Roeckls but they were most expensive and  I didn't like their designs/styles. I tried on some Heritage gloves, but I didn't find the exact ones I liked and they didn't have my old style in black, or the right size. Then I went to the Ariat section and my mom found the ones I liked, the Ariat Tek Grips. They just felt so nice! :)

Has anyone ever used the Ariat Tek Grips before? Or had any experience with the Ariat brand for gloves?

Glad you found some you like. The SSG "All Weather" last much longer than the $5 cotton ones, but they cost more like $20-22.

Hope you like the Ariat ones - since the company was built on the idea of "sports" clothing/shoes for equestrians, they should be pretty good.

Thanks! :) I did try on some SSG gloves again, but I tried on the Ariats and they just felt so good! :)

Judgement: I used to have those same gloves! Or at least something very very similar. Those ones got too small on me. :(
