    Sweet itch or ???

My new mare is just miserable with itching!!!  Sad  She was bad last summer when I bought her, but I thought I had it licked and tried to prevent it again this year.  Wrong.  Does anyone have any tried and true fixes???  I'm feeding her vitamin C and E, Sprulina, Apple Cider Vinegar and fly spray each and every morning.  She is still really itchy, from her midline down.  HELP!!!

Take a cruise around this thread:

    http://www.chronofhorse.com/forum/showthread.php?t=155469

Many people have kicked sweet itch in the butt by treating for neck thread worms.  A double dose of Equimax then another double dose in 2 weeks.  The people on this thread know what they're talking about especially JB and Chocomare, when it comes to parasites.  It won't hurt your mare to try it.

    Good luck!

Did some reading up on this, you may be onto something.  I'm going to town today, think I'll stop by CAL Ranch and pick up some Equimax and give it a try!!! Thank you!!!

Good luck!  It won't hurt her and I hope it helps!  Remember she may get a little itchier a couple of days after the Equimax so you might try to help her out with an anithistamine like Anihist.

Here is another thread on Horse City with some awesome before and after pictures.  Chocomare posted about DD'ing the Equimax and you wouldn't believe the difference in her horse afterwards.

If you can document what works for you and post over the the COTH thread that would be great!  That thread has been alive for 4 years because everyone keeps updating it.

I've bought the EquiMax but I'm waiting until we get back from a weekend trip to give it to her.  Big Smile  Tell me again what to get if she gets extra itchy while this is working itself out?

Found it, AniHist.  Just ordered some from Valley Vet.  Thank you!!!  This all now makes sense.  She has a cough sometimes too, maybe it's the threadworms...

I just realized the one thread was three pages long, read the whole thing and looked at the pictures too.  Sounds like a lot of horses have this and everybody is just treating the symptoms.  Looking forward to getting this done, once the antihistimines get here!!!  Thank you so much!!!  Big Smile

My dog groomer/boarder told me her Arab had this too.  Scratched so bad on wooden posts got splinters and infected.  She said after you worm the worms die off and migrate to the surface.  Will this be all over Stormy???? OMGosh...

It might happen, but it's something that has to be done to eventually make him feel better.
