So when i got to my new farm there was a baby horse almost a year old. His name is Bailey and his owners bought him mom not knowing she was pregnate! Keep in mind these people are new horse owners. My horse Sunny was best friends friends with him. His stall was in the arena and whenever i would let sunny out he would run over to see bailey

Bailey had jsut been started to be bet turn out with horses he was in a pasture with one other horse who was pretty calm and took a beating from bailey. Well on tuesday Bailey was rought houseing with intrepid and was bucking and rearing like a little boy should but he was playing so hard that he broke his back! The person who feeds saw him laying down thinking he was sun bathing since it was a whopping 56 degrees. Well when he didnt get up to be brought in the person called the vet and the owner and sadly Bailey had to be put down on tuesday:(

Bailey was only two months away from turning one.

This is also a not to people when you see your horses sunbathing and playing hard check them out all over and becareful!

Arizen's Turn!!!

It's time! Arizen is due on Monday, and we're expecting her to actually foal on Tuesday. She is HUGE and the baby is very active. We're hoping for a boy, but I'm excited either way. The sooner the baby is born, the sooner it is weaned, and the sooner I get my horse back!

I'll be going out to the barn every day until then, and I will probably stay the night in the viewing room once she starts showing more signs. Right now, her bag is large but the milk is still clear. It gets more cloudy every day, though!

In the meantime, I've been forcing her to get out and walk because her legs get swollen from standing around too much. So we walk around and then hang out at the mounting block while my friends finish riding. Here are a few pictures from the last couple days, with more to come:

It's a Chocolate Colt!

Sorry I've been so delayed in posting this - Rain foaled a healthy chocolate colt at 3 am on Tuesday morning. We had several problems after an easy birth, one involving Rain stepping on his face, to not having any milk, and having terrible cramps when we gave her oxytocin and leading me to believe she died at one point since she would stop breathing during the contraction.

After a shaky start there, he had a normal level of antibodies in his system when the milk finally came and he's now a healthy, rambunctious colt. He loves nothing more than to run circles around his mama. He was originally down in the pasterns but they have straightened up substantially.

Mini Magic's Sugar Baby, aka Sage. 36.5" AMHR chesnut varnish appy mare

In foal to Spin, aka VFG El Arlequin, my 33" AMHA/AMHR/FBR National Top Ten stallion

I hand bred her, then turned her out with Spin. She didn't take on the hand breeding, as I saw her in season the next cycle. If she caught on that cycle, she's due 2/10. I didn't catch her showing after that, but it IS very possible that she's due later... and in fact I highly suspect it.

She's a maiden. Her udder was very non-existant. Just a flat area with two tiny dots of nipples lol :) But Monday it started to... relax? "hang?" "loosen?" Something like that ;)

Even though she's not close yet, she's on cam, just because... I have the cam, might as well have her on it so I can learn what she acts like at night ;)

Sage is a very skittish mare, so I will NOT go in the stall until she's pushing.

I'm hoping for a leopard filly, but whatever it is, I just :pray: :pray: :pray: this one goes well!!! If not a leopard filly, should be for sale.

Sage is ee aa no silver and Spin is Ee aa so baby will either be black or chestnut, and hopefully an appy!.

Another edit: until she's closer, I will often turn off the cam during the day while she's out. Sometimes Craig requests me to leave her in and on cam as he gets paranoid ;) But if it's off during the day, that's why. When she's close I will post when it will be off.

Rain's Foaling Thread

Rain is currently about 308 days along, we bred her to a World Grand Champion park pleasure RMH stallion, Merry Go Blue. She's not due until May 9th, and she is a maiden.

This is our one and only foal, my friend does have a mare who escaped from her pen to go get bred to a TWH stallion, and she is now down here at my house to stay in safe fencing with no studs around.We have no idea when she is due.

Any one want to guess as far as color goes? She is Chocolate, bred to a black stallion, so the choices are Black, Chocolate, or Chestnut.

Confetti, aka Lot-A-Dot Queen AMHR 37" silver dapple leopard mare

is in foal to Spin, aka VFG El Arlequin, my AMHA/AMHR/FBR 33" black leopard National Top Ten stallion

She is due mid Jan or a little later... I hand bred her but then put her out with Spin, so it's possible she's due in Feb, but I'm pretty sure she took when I hand bred her.

This morning I watched her baby be VERY active! I've never seen a mare's tummy move so much! Was so neat, too bad I didn't have my camera to video it! Maybe I can catch it some other time ;)

I will let you know (and put in my sig) once my marestare cam is up. I'm hoping to get it done this week! I will also try to get some preggy photos this week as well. It's a busy week for me, so no promises.

As for now, here is her belly back in August

Months have turned into weeks. LOL We got Misily (JC name "Miss Sally" coming 7 y/o OTTB) while already infoal to a T-bred Stud named Itron. The baby already has a loving home waiting for it. Anyway, She's do end of March, beginning of April (Exact due date is 4/1... Be funny if it was an April Fools Baby!). Far as we knew, this is her first... And we got her in not so great condition, though she's doing much better now... So please cross your fingers all goes smoothly! As we get closer, I'll post updates. Just wanted to get a thread started. :D

My first mare is due in a month! I'm going to have my camera online around the first and I'll let you know once I do :) My second mare is due Feb, March or April (stupid me did pasture breeding so I"m not exactly sure when! I think Feb though, possibly March...) Then maybe one due in August.

I will start a thread for each horse as we get closer. All three are bred to Spin, my National Top Ten black leopard appaloosa mini.

Confetti, silver black leopard mare, is due first.

Sage, chestnut varnish appy mare second.

And the possible third is Cocoa, silver buckskin dun mare.

My friend's dun mare is also due by Spin, in Feb. No photos of her but you bet I will take tons when the foal is born :) She's hoping for a buckskin or dun (I htink her mare is dun, but might be buckskin, too... I forget!) colt.

I don't plan to keep any foals, but I may change my mind if I get a leopard filly... we'll see ;)

I am sorry to say that we had to put Cheater's mom down because of complications from the delivery. Cheater was a huge baby and she was a maiden mare. Not a good combination! We are now raising Cheater ourselves. He thinks that we are his parents.

Ruby's foaling thread!

Ruby is at 274 days today, so we should still have some time! She has had several foals before, but before I got her. Last year I had her, and she sadly lost her colt. He died before birth, causing her to abort at day 332. I don't know the length of her other pregnancies.

For some reason she was wet under here? These photos were after bringing her in from turnout. Hubby did refill the water there, I forgot to ask he he got her wet, but it would be weird just to get her wet in this area and not her legs? Why would she sweat just here though? Or??? Oh and she was just turned out in the round pen. With Casi and Cocoa, but Ruby is NOT one to move much. They usually get turned out in a bigger space, but I just put them in the round pen for today.

Camera will be up this week! But not really for her, for Casi and Cocoa.

Next week Casi will hit day 300. Minis tend to go around 320, according to many mini breeders... and they all say to start watching at day 300 b/c it's not unusual to go soon after that.. then of course, there are those (horses, I mean) who wait until day 360 or even longer! ;)

Anyhow, Casi's udder has slight developement! No photos yet, sorry. She's ALL HAIR! Friday (if not tomarrow) I will be relieving her of some of that belly fur, and then can take photos ;) (nothing on Ruby or Cocoa yet, once there is news I'll make them a thread, too).

I hope to get my camera online on marestare by the weekend. Need to move it though so it covers more than just one stall, as I have 3 due roughly the same time (one, Ruby, is due a month after Casi and Cocoa, but you never know....)

Well, my mare, Justa Real Honey, foaled Sunday morning (April 13th) and she gave me a beautiful cremello(?) colt. He has the cutest blue eyes and a huge star on his forehead. He is the friendliest little thing. Loves to be scratched. So what do you guys think, perlino or cremello?

She would be my father in law's mare who refuses to follow any schedule. According to my records and charts, Peanut was not due until May 12. Peanut had her baby sometime after midnight. We're guessing she was only about 6 hours when we saw her at 8 this morning. Sorrel filly with four white socks and a big ole blaze down her face.

I swear this mare does it just to give me fits. This is her fourth foal and the fourth time she's been weeks early - or what seems to be weeks early. You'd think I'd learn. At least it wasn't twins this time. Pics when I get them

Can she have False contractions?

A mini mule pregnant.I know it can happen ,but its truely rare.Are vet came out to give shots and he looks at her and says she is pregnant and thst she sure looks like a donkey to him.She doesnt have many features of a donkey tho,but he's knows better then I do. So She started acting like she was going into foal last night.we called the vet to be safe cause she was laying and rolling and we want to be safe incase it was collic. He told us to just keep a eye on her cause it sounded like she was going into foal. well I stayed up till like 2 am watching her to make sure I dont miss nothing and she seemed to have contractions on and off. My mom watched her the rest of the night for me. At 6am I go look on her and she is up and moving around.She isnt acting her normal part ,maybe just warn out I guess. my question is she even going to have a baby? I mean will they have contractions at night be fine a while and start over again? Do they have false contactions? I have never had a horse/donkey have a baby and this def. wasnt planned. I'm not doubting the vets knoldge,but scince we didnt make him test her for its possible she isnt.I hope she is though.

Approx. how many days does a horse go before birth. I have been told nine months but does anyone have anything more specific. We sent our mare Trixie away to get bred beginning of June last year (my dad is pretty sure she was bred June 4th) but we're not totally sure. We are 90% sure she is pregnant (she sure has gotten big and I don't think its a hay belly :P )and I just wanted to see if anyone can help with pinpointiing the date. I am starting to check her udder and will take pics though there is no development yet. I'm not expecting there to be any for a little bit but you can't be to ready I guess.
