Today my mom and I were out at the barn, and well, it was a very weird day. We were both riding, when my instructor had to come through the indoor arena with her mare. The mare did have a foal about 2 months ago, but isn't in heat now or anything... Anyway, when she came in with the mare, Tonto FREAKED. Luckily I wasn't on his back because I was fixing my saddle, but I was just about to get up again. He started trotting and moving all over the place on the end of the reins, and trying to rear and kick and everything. Worst of all, his "you-know-what" came out. He's not even a stallion! He was 6 years ago, but was only bred 4 times...
The owners had decided to geld him, because they got out of the breeding business. Anyway, my mom was riding her young mare, and just a minute after Tonto went crazy (the other mare was out of the arena at this time) My mom's horse bolted off to the side, and my mom fell off and hurt her hip. Tonto had just calmed down though, and the mare had just left, so nothing *should* have spooked my mom's horse. Anyway, Tonto was crazy for the rest of the ride, he wouldn't lope, kept running me into the wall, etc.
Why all of this over one mare, no foal by her side or anything like that, not in heat or anything? Both Tonto and my mom's horse have seen this mare hundreds of times!
