    Texas Draft Horse Seminar

A couple of weeks ago I went to the Texas Draft Horse and Mule Association seminar at my farriers ranch, where he breeds Clydesdales.

I took a bunch of photos during the day, of his girls, his stallion and other horses that were there.

We had demonstrations and then each had a go at ground driving and and driving. I got to drive a single hitch for the first time.

I put the photos up in on Flickr (was going to be on Yahoo but they are closing their photo galleries)

Here's a link if anyone wants to see.

Great pics! Thanks for posting them. That Percheron was gorgeous! Well, all the horses were, but I especially liked that Percheron. Smile

    Glad you liked the pics.

I fell in love with Bob, the Percheron, too! His coloring was just perfect. Would you believe, they got him as a RESCUE!!! Who could ever abandon or abuse a horse like that???

What a fun, great day that must have been. That's something I would have loved to go to if they had one here.

I must say that Texas sure is flat. Grin

Do they ever trim the hooves while the horses are in stocks?

    Bob is a knockout!!

Actually yes, my farrier has stocks at his place.

In fact, the horse that he's demonstrating the ways to pick their feet up (with the cuff around the fetlock and the rope over the back) could only be done in stocks till Steve started working with him.

In addition, when Steve first met Star, he told me that probably the reason I had had such a hard time getting her to pick her feet up was that she had probably only been trimmed in stocks before and wasn't used to what I consider the "normal" way.

And yes - the gulf coast area is as flat as a pancake. That's one of the reasons I really want to move to an area with some scenery!
