yup, I would agree that it is a close contact (older saddle) very nice with very little padding. I know a LOT of older horse folk who REALLY like those saddles with little padding. To be honest, I do too. They really let you feel the horse under you, and you develop a nice, independent seat riding in them (because you can't grip with your knees as much as with the highly padded contemporary saddles). Having said that, I have ridden cross country with both a close contact (Crosby Prix de Nations) and a forward seat cross country / show jumping specific saddle (Clif Barnsby Esprit), and I like the security of the Barnsby for cross country galloping. You scored on that saddle though - congrats!
