    So far so good...

Ruby should have come into season this past Monday if she didn't get pregnant, and she has had no interest in the boys! Smile So we shall see... Wink

I'm going to recheck her interest on what would have been her next cycle, as well. Vet's coming out next week (unrelated) and I may ask her about u/s... I had reasons I didn't want to yet (2 year old stallion, he doesn't like to breed her if I'm not there (LOL!) and I was gone the end of her last cycle... so I figured she wouldn't get pregnant, so I didn't want to spend the money to figure that out, figured I'd just see if she came back into season... but since she didn't...

For those of you who breed, especially if you have your own stallion, do you u/s your mares to see if they got pregnant, or just see if they come back in season?

I hope that she is bred!! At the stable where I work at, they u/s the mares a little over 14 days, I also know someone else that u/s. When (If) I breed my Imp (she 2 now, so I have a wait) I'll probably u/s. Let us know how it goes!!

We ultrasounded at 14-17 days if there were no signs of heat, and again at 28-34 (I think?) to check for a heartbeat and both times checked for twins. Good luck!

    Thank you MadMare!!!

When I was breeding, I just waited to see if she came into season again. Since they were my mares, it didn't matter too much when they were bred.

I never u/s. To expensive for me. Since for me, it didn't matter if they were in foal or not. There were times when I had the vet come out and she would do an internal. But the other vet I had, didn't do internals so he would have to draw blood. It's been so long now that I don't remember how far along they had to be to check them either way.

    Thanks everyone Smile

Spragueme, that's pretty much my thoughts... my mare, my stud, I can just rebreed if not pregnant, so so far just did the check to see if she comes back in season thing... though I might still ask my vet about the costs of u/s... we'll see...

Up here U/S is cheaper then the farm call to get the vet there. We do ours just to make sure. And one of dad's mares has a history of twins so she always needs to be done..and while the vet is there we might as well do the others. Flicka is going today to be bred..I think we missed her 30 day though..she was 30 days on the 9th..so I hope that he can get her.

    Re: So far so good...

I just had my mare ultrasounded for the third time already! She's at 45 days, and everything looks good, heartbeat present and all that. At our 14-day check, it looked like she might be resorbing, just not as round and definied as it should've been, so we checked again a few days later, expecting to have nothing, but wanting to be sure before short-cycling her. Turned out everything looked perfect, she was just a tad slow getting started, and everything looked great today, so here's hoping!

We were doing AI, and paying by the shipment of semen, so whole different scenario. I'm paranoid about twinning, though, so I probably would've had her checked either way.

How exciting!!! Good luck! Yeah, if I was AI (like in many years when I breed Radiance to an approved friesian stallion) I'd be getting all the U/S done, too!!!
