Horses in DESPERATE need in CO!!!!!

Hi all, hope no one is offended, but I just have to get this out there. Shiloh Acres is a rescue group in Colorado and they are trying to find some horses homes before they are shipped off to slaughter from a feed lot. They deserve a chance to live and be loved!

    Shiloh Acres Urgent!!!!

Awwww the baby and the crippled gelding stories made me cry!!! I hope they can find the rest of them homes!!! Definatley worth a shot posting about them here. If I had the financial means I would take them all. You're right they do deserve a chance to live and be loved. The unfortunate thing is this kinda thing goes on every single day. If they could be sent here for free I'ld have the room but we all know the odds of that ever happening.

So frustrating... And I am 90% sure I know someone who would take probably all 4 of the ones that are left, but she couldn't buy them and have them shipped to NY. Frown

    Thank you MadMare!!!

You might have your friend call Shiloh Acres if they are interested in the horses. The woman who runs it may be able to find someone who will transport the horses for free or next to nothing.

Re: Horses in DESPERATE need in CO!!!!!

These deals always make me laugh and I'm sure the feedlot owner does also all the way to the bank. If people want to " save " horses from feedlots why not buy the ones that are actually going to be slaughtered or better yet go to the sales you can save about 5 or 6 for evryone listed on that site for the money. The U>S> plants no longer take horses under 900 lbs and do not take cripples. Should say they no longer pay for them they will take them if there free. Canadian plants will but I hardly think theres any money shipping horses from Co. to Can. after fuel costs and with 1000's of head lined up here in Mn., and the Dakotas waiting to cross the border each month.

The feedlot owner is playing on peoples heart strings to pay big bucks for these horses and people fall for it. I sure don't blame the feedlot owner hes making good money on horses that other wise are worth about .10 to .15 a lb for zoo food or a dog kennel somewhere that makes their own food. For $1000 you can go virtually to any state and find sales with horses like these and buy 10.

Slaughter plants are no differant today then they ever have been they want fat horses in good flesh thats where the meat is thats what there in business for same as cattle or hogs. Anyone wants to save a horse from slaughter go buy young fat horses. The ones that are mean, untrained, wild, buck, can't be handled etc. Those are the ones that actually get slaughtered. The ones on this site are just junk that no one wants and feedlot operators get for free or next to it. If they can sell 1 out of 10 at the inflated price they come out like a rose. If the others dioe off, get put down, used for zoo food so what they made way more then enough on the 1 to cover costs

    Quality doesn't cost it pays.

Re: Horses in DESPERATE need in CO!!!!!

Look at it this way. Say your hauling a truck load of horses to slaugher. Are you going to haul a load of thin run down older cripple types that will bring .10 a lb?

Or are you going to haul a load of young fat heavy fleshed animals that will bring you .60 a lb?

Your costs are going to be exactly the same to haul there. Feedlot owners are in business to make money same as the ones with cattle and hogs. Slaughter plants are the same you don't make money with skin and bones you make it with large amounts of meat in that business. The myth about slaughter plants wanting skinny run down horses is just that.

    Quality doesn't cost it pays.

Re: Horses in DESPERATE need in CO!!!!!

I didn't know they had a minimum weight, or restrictions against cripples. At least the weight thing I can understand though, I just didn't know. I still take every horse as an individual though and if the descriptions are correct, those horses have the potential to be nice horses, so I still hope they get the chance. I know there are lots of others like them and we have no shortage of unwanted horses and I can't keep them all, but it's not their fault.

    Thank you MadMare!!!
